BROOKVILLE NIPS LIBERTY

LYNCHBURG - Patrick Muncher made three out of four free throws in the last minute and Brookville held on for a 61-60 victory over Liberty on Wednesday night in the Seminole District opener for both teams.

Muncher, Brookville's center, went 7-for-9 from the line and finished with 21 points to go with 13 rebounds. Point guard Dewayne Rhodes made 16 of 19 free throws and finished with 20 points.

Liberty, which led 10-0, got 15 points from Gregg Reynolds.

Altavista 65

Staunton River 61

ALTAVISTA - The Colonels pulled away in the fourth quarter behind Dennis Brown and Lee Shirlen and beat the Golden Eagles in the Seminole District and season opener for both teams.

Brown scored nine of his 18 and Shirlen six of his 24 as Altavista held off Staunton River despite a late charge by Hunter Hoggatt, a sophomore transfer from Altavista. Hoggatt had three 3-pointers and scored 13 of his 26 points in the fourth period.
