LISA SNOW, employed by Roanoke Construction Specialities, has received the WIC of the Year Award from the National Association of Women in Construction for her contributions to the Roanoke Valley Chapter No.226.
ANN-MARIE DIXON and NORMAN AMDAHL, employees of Lutheran Brotherhood, recently were installed as officers to fraternal organizations.
Dixon is the president of the Virginia Fraternal Congress; Amdahl is the president of the Virginia Association of Fraternal Insurance Counselors.
Both organizations represent more than 20 benefit societies in the state.
CARROLL HUFFMAN, formerly of Roanoke was named director and general partner of Palm City Brokers, a real estate development in Fort Meyers, Fla.
NATIONAL POOLS OF ROANOKE INC. was selected as one of the top 100 businesses in the spa and pool industry by the AQUA 100 list published in the November issue of AQUA, the business magazine for spa and pool professionals.
Those on the list are selected by their industry peers.
LAURA GLAZIER and BETTY TOM BRADSHAW, have received the Columbia/HCA Healthcare employee and volunteer Humanitarian Awards at Lewis-Gale Hospital.
Glazier is a physical therapy assistant in the rehabilitation department, and Bradshaw is an emergency department volunteer. They were honored at a banquet at the hospital to recognize all employees and volunteers nominated this year and will represent Lewis-Gale in the national competition for the 1994 Columbia/HCA awards.
G.E. ROBERTSON STILES II has passed the first of two examinations required for certification as a Certified Safety Professional. Stiles is a loss control consultant with the Rutherfoord Companies.
LEONARD D. HATCH JR. a retired bank examiner, recently was elected as chairman of the Service Corps of Retired Executives for 1994-95.
Also elected were: Ernest D. Kaufman, Kaufman Associates, vice chairman; John T. Ryan, retired from IBM, secretary; Ruth S. Spradlin, retired from Colonial American Bank, treasurer; and Robert E. Carter, retired from Burroughs/Unisys, district manager for statewide operations.
ZANE HARDY and STEPHEN SNEAD have been presented the Robert H. Marion Branch Employees of the Year Award by the Erie Insurance Group. Both men work in the Roanoke office.
The award is given annually to employees who best exemplify spirit, commitment and dedication to service.
Hardy is a claims secretary, and Snead is a material damage adjuster.
JOHN FELDVARY, a USAir captain, has been re-elected to a second two-year term as executive vice president of the Air Line Pilots Association.
Feldvary is the son of Louis and Eve Feldvary of Roanoke.
PETROLEUM MARKETING INC. based in Roanoke, has earned Citgo Petroleum Corp.'s presidential award for outstanding service to the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the "Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon" for the fourth year in a row.
Jerry Lewis joined Citgo President and CEO Ronald E. Hall in recognizing the company for raising $100,000 in the 1994 campaign.
Citgo and its branded distributors have raised more than $14.5 million in contributions and pledges for the MDA during eight years of sponsorship.
GARRETT B. LAUTENSCHLAGER, director of Western Virginia EMS Council in Salem, was recently awarded the Governor's Award to the Outstanding EMS Administrator at the Annual Virginia Emergency Medical Services Symposium. The award winners received a certificate of recognition from Allen and were presented an emergency medical services medallion encased in a Lucite pyramid.
KIMBERLY H. STOGNER, a 1982 Cave Spring High School graduate, recently joined the law firm of Petree Stockton L.L.P., with offices in Charlotte, Raleigh and Winston-Salem, N.C.
Stogner, daughter of Vincent and Glennis Hemintoller of Roanoke, received a juris doctor degree with cum laude distinction from Wake Forest University in 1994. She earned a bachelor of arts degree with cum laude distinction in economics/Spanish from Wake Forest in 1986.
Stogner practices in the area of estate planning at the Winston-Salem office.
GREGG M. FLETCHER recently was appointed vice president of finance at Hickory Business Furniture. Fletcher is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a bachelor of science management degree.
Fletcher is the son of Charles and Joy Fletcher of Roanoke.
CATHY COOK, development review coordinator for Roanoke County, was named the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association Inc.'s 1994 Public Employee of the Year.
The award is presented to those working within the operational jurisdiction of the association. Nominations are made by members of the Board of Directors and builder membership.
FRANK VAN BALEN has been elected president of the Roanoke Valley Chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He is president of VFP Inc. and a former Businessman of the Year as chosen by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
Other officers elected were: Lynda McGarry, vice president; Beverly DeSchon, treasurer; Marie Reid, corresponding secretary; and Sandy Obenshain, recording secretary.
ROANOKE REGIONAL HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION INC. named David Vaughn of Dominion Builders its 1994 Sales and Marketing Council Builder of the Year.
The association also named several sales award winners.
The Gold Hammer Award winners who sold six or more new homes are: Vivian Frank and Sylvia T. Wilson, both of Boone and Company; and Anita Mills, MKB Realtors.
The Silver Hammer Award winners who sold four to five new homes are: Viola Campbell, Campbell Realty Inc.; Egon M. Hofmann, Barker Realty Co.; Betty J. Kirkland, MKB Realtors; and Betsy Settles, Boone and Company.
Winning the Bronze Hammer Award, which recognizes those who sold one to three new homes were: Betty T. Anderson, Frances Witt and Paula Bumgarner, all of MKB; Pat Dew, Wayne Goodman, W.H. Maxwell, David A. Pollock and Doris S. Smith, all of Barker Realty Co.; Gwynn "G.K." Kinsey and Beth Wilson, both of Owens and Co.; and Tim Toohig, Boone and Company.
AVIS CONSTRUCTION COMPANY INC., which represents Butler Manufacturing Co. as the authorized dealer for Roanoke and Montgomery counties, has been ranked 47th in the Metal Construction News listing of the 75 largest metal roofing contractors in the country.
The award is based on tonnage of pre-engineered metal reroofing components purchased during 1993. The company purchased 108 tons.
Earlier this year, Avis was No. 33 in metal building sales.
LISA BENNETT DOWNIE has been promoted to senior account executive for Virginia's 13 WSET. She works in the Roanoke bureau.
Bennett, who has been with the television station for nine years, was promoted based on performance and tenure requirements. Her responsibilities include regional sales and marketing throughout Virginia and North Carolina.
RONALD MILLER, building commissioner for the city of Roanoke, was elected president of the Virginia Building and Code Officials Association this month.
