The Salem Rotary Club has announced that it will donate $12,950 to 25 Roanoke Valley Social Service agencies and charities.
The club raised the funds from their annual sponsorship of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference basketball tournament, which will be held in February.
The agencies receiving funds are: the Alzheimer's Association, Apple Tree Farm, Association for Retarded Citizens, Boy Scouts of America, Bradley Free Clinic, Camp Virginia Jaycees, Community Christmas Store, Congressional Award Program, Experimental Aircraft Association-Young Eagles Program, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Fort Lewis Rescue Squad, Lewis-Gale Medical Foundation, Lifeline Foundation, Office of Emergency Services, Planned Parenthood, Presbyterian Community Center, Roanoke College, Roanoke County Police Department D.A.R.E program, Roanoke Valley Adult Day Care Center, Salem Rescue Squad, Salem Police Department D.A.R.E. program, Salem Historical Society, Southwest Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank and the West End Center.
Mental health group elects officers for '95
Kathryn Van Patten was recently elected president of The Mental Health Association of Roanoke Valley for the 1995 year:
Other officers elected to the association are: Ann Hutton, president-elect; Kay Kostura, secretary; and the Rev. Larry Sprouse, treasurer.
Roanoker serving in state 4-H position
Julie Bolt, formerly of Roanoke, is serving as State Big Chief of the Virginia Chapter of 4-H All Stars.
All Stars are 4-H members, alumni, leaders and extension agents who are recognized for their service in the 4-H program.
Besides service in many areas of 4-H as an adult, Bolt was active in the Cave Spring 4-H Club, Roanoke Valley County Council and Virginia Tech Collegiate 4-H. She has also served as Lesser Chief and Recording Scribe of the Virginia Chapter of the All Stars.
Bolt is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Bolt of Roanoke.
Neighborhood watch group elects officers
The Willow River Neighborhood Watch members recently selected their building captains.
Serving as captains are: James and Jana Dalton; Roxanne Paradise; Shannon and Phaedra Christy; Bea Edwards; Tracy Levis; Betsy Walker; Belinda and Carl Barkhouse; Sandra White; Rachel Nardone; Richard Long; Jamie Hays; Ken Mattern; Linda Shiflett; and Denise Fox.
