WORLD AIDS DAY, set for today will be observed in many congregations by members wearing red ribbons that were distributed the past Sunday. A project of the American Red Cross, it is meant to show compassion for those who have the incurable disease and their families and friends.

THE ROANOKE COLLEGE CHOIR will perform Sunday at 4 and 7 p.m. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 631 N. Jefferson St. Directed by Jeffrey Sandborg, the program will include seasonal music by the Preparatory Division Children's Choir under the direction of Kimberly Davidson as well as selections by harpist Sanghee Uhm and organist Donald G. Moe. The programs are free though an offering will be taken for Roanoke Area Ministries. "There Is a Flower: Lessons and Carols of Christmas" will be the theme.

WOMAN IN LIGHT, an Advent play about Mary, the mother of Jesus, will be presented tonight, Friday and Saturday at Virginia Western Community College. The monologue, which covers Mary's life, will feature Barbara Johnson, a nationally traveled actress. Performances begin at 8.

Johnson is a member of the Evangelical Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, which is sponsoring the show. Call 563-0778 for ticket information.

THE REV. KIRK LASHLEY, director of Southern Baptist ministries in the Roanoke Valley Association, was elected first vice president of the Virginia Baptist General Association at its recent meeting in Salem. Lashley is affiliated with Colonial Avenue Baptist Church.

RELIGION AND RACE, a group of United Methodists in the Roanoke District working for more inclusion of minorities in churches, has announced its 1995 goals. These include a cross-racial pulpit exchange and choir festival, a Habitat for Humanity project conducted across racial lines, a joint vacation Bible school with more than one race involved and transracial youth activities.

The group meets regularly, usually at the Roanoke United Methodist Home. For more information, call 989-3335.

A BOB JONES UNIVERSITY TEAM from the Christian school in Greenville, S.C., will be at Glenvar Baptist Church, 4804 Stanley Farm Road, Salem, Tuesday to present "Truth in Action," dramatizations of stories on the need for salvation. The male sextet, all students at the school, will perform at 7 p.m.

FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH in downtown Salem will participate in the Olde Salem Days seasonal festival Saturday with a living Nativity tableau on the lawn. On Sunday at 8:45 a.m. the Youth Choir directed by Hilda Paxton will sing and Communion will be celebrated. At 11 a.m. William Snyder will direct the Sanctuary Choir in selections from Rutter's "Gloria" and Pinkham's "Christmas Cantata." The morning services on Dec. 11 will feature the children's choirs with a pageant that evening at 5. On Christmas Eve the church will have a family service at 5 p.m. and special music and Scripture at 10:30 p.m. On Christmas Day there will be one service at 10:30 a.m.

FINCASTLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH on Back Street has scheduled a Moravian Love Feast service by candlelight on Dec. 21 at 5 p.m. Sponsored by the women of the church, it will include traditional Moravian coffee and sweet bun refreshments along with brass music and hymn singing.

ROANOKE VALLEY CATHEDRAL OF PRAISE, Angel Lane off Interstate 81 at Exit 146, will sponsor Kirk Talley, singer and songwriter of Morristown, Tenn., in a concert Sunday at 6 p.m. Talley has sung throughout the nation and won several awards for his rendition of southern gospel music.

A GOSPEL MUSIC CONCERT, featuring Living Proof, Altar of Prayer and Wings of Faith groups, will be presented Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. at Lord Botetourt High School at Daleville. It is free.

VILLA HEIGHTS BAPTIST CHURCH, 4080 Challenger Ave. N.E., has scheduled Christmas music by its children's and youth choirs Sunday at 5 p.m. The choirs are directed by Anne Eakin, minister of music.

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH on North Jefferson Street will dedicate a Habitat for Humanity house Saturday at noon. The house at 813 Kellogg Ave. N.W., has been built in cooperation with the Habitat agency as its co-sponsor.

BETHLEHEM BIBLE COLLEGE, a training school for evangelical church leadership founded in 1987, will sponsor a Bible conference Saturday. It will be held at Victory Christian Center, 1806 Loudon Ave. N.W. Several workshops on church administration and Bible doctrines will be taught. Keynote speaker will be the Rev. C.C. Morgan Jr. of Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church at Gala. The program starts at 6 p.m.

EVELYN CONNER, singer of southern gospel music of Salem, will perform Sunday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for homecoming at Tree of Life Ministries in Buchanan.

NORTH VALLEY SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS, who worship in the North Lakes area, distributed 32 Thanksgiving baskets to needy individuals in the Roanoke Valley. An estimated 100 people received the food according to Elder John M. McGraw, pastor.

SOUTH ROANOKE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, South Jefferson at 23rd Street, has announced its Advent programs. The Brass Five quintet will play Sunday at 11 a.m. On Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. the choirs of children and adults will present special music. Communion will be celebrated on Christmas Eve at 7:30 p.m. with Christmas Day joint education program at 10 and worship at 11.

THE REV. MARK W. RADECKE, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, will be on a study leave from Christmas Day through March 4, 1995. Radecke is completing work on a Master of Sacred Theology degree from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. In his absence the Rev. Robin Henrickson, associate pastor, will administer the parish.

BELMONT UNITED METHODIST CHURCH,, 806 Jamison Ave. S.E., will offer Christmas music Dec. 11 at its 11 a.m. service. Flute, brass and guitar will augment the organ in a presentation of international seasonal music.

MINERAL SPRINGS BAPTIST CHURCH, Virginia 24 near Vinton, will present a play, "The Greatest Gift of All," Tuesday at 7 p.m. It includes music and a Christmas story for the family and will be performed by a national touring company.
