New RU fan club

RADFORD - Radford University women's basketball coach, Luby Lichonczak, announced the formation of the "Little Highlander Club." The basketball team initiated the club in hopes of getting more young fans involved in its program - which has won the last five Big South conference championships, highlighted by last's season 18-12 record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to college athletics, the club emphasizes students' academic performance. "Little Highlander's" who make their school's honor roll will receive a ball autographed by each team player and the coaching staff. Members can also earn prizes by reading books.

The club is open to youths ages 5-13. Members receive a free pass to all Radford women's basketball games, a university basketball T-shirt, a pizza party with the team, basketball clinics, a membership card and invitations to various other activities with Highlander players. The fee is $10.

One parent accompanying a club member will receive free admission into the game and another guardian will get in for $2, less than half the $5 reserved seat admission price.

Farm assistance

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Montgomery County Farm Service Agency has announced that farmers can apply now for 1995 Agricultural Conservation Program assistance. Farmers can sign up for long-term projects through Dec. 30 and for individual projects through September 1995.

Program funds for 1995 will be about half the amount allocated in previous years. Eligible projects include building animal waste storage structures, stream protection, planting trees or improving existing timber stands, and correcting erosion problems.

The agency says conservation plans and systems must be in place and practices implemented by Jan. 1, 1995, for producers to be eligible for 1995 U.S. Department of Agriculture benefits.

The Farm Service Agency also has announced that elections for the Montgomery County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee, which were to be held this month, have been rescheduled because of the agriculture department's recent restructuring. Current committee members will continue until a new election is held next fall.

For more information, call W. Terry Altizer, acting county executive director, 382-3961.
