ALLISON, Martha Wade, 87, of Wytheville, formerly of Draper, Va., died Saturday, December 3, 1994, in the Roanoke United Methodist Home. She was born in Draper, Va. October 28, 1907, a daughter of Wade U. Allison and Joanna Farris Allison. She graduated from Radford College and continued her education at several colleges and universities. She retired from the VPI Extension Service after working in many Virginia counties as a Home Demonstration Agent. Miss Allison was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Wytheville. She also was a member of the DAR. She is survived by one sister, Louise Allison of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Sunday, December 4, 1994 in the Allison Family Cemetery in Pulaski, Va. at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Laurie McAlpine officiating. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. John's Episcopal Church in Wytheville, Va. The Grubb Funeral H ome is in charge of arrangements.

BRAY, Charlie Clifford, 81, of Casselberry, Fla., formerly of Roanoke, died Saturday, December 3, 1994. Surviving are his wife, Annie Bray, Casselberry, Fla.;three sons Harold Bray, Lake Mary, Fla., Gaylord Bray, Altamonte Springs, Fla., David Bray, Casselberry, Fla.; three daughters, Barbara Lenart, Vinton, Sylvia Bray, Roanoke, Julia Sartin, Orlando, Fla.; sister, Edna Joyce, Martinsville; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. COOMBS, Judith Munroe 47, of Ocoee, Fla., died Wednesday, November 30, 1994. Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James L. DUNCAN, Evelyn L., 74, of Newport, Va. died Friday morning, December 2, 1994, at her home following a long illness. Born in Eggleston, Va. she was a daughter of the late Olan and Sadie Albert Long. She had worked at the Hoechst-Celanese Celco Plant and at VPI & SU and was a long-time member of the Level Green Christian Church in Craig Co. Surviving are her husband, Junior W. Duncan; two sons and daughters-in-law, Davey T. and Judith Lewis Duncan of Colonial Heights, Va. and Denny W. and Jeanette Kelley Duncan of Eggleston, Va. and three grandchildren, Shaun David Duncan, Richard White Duncan and Evelyn Christine Duncan. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the Level Green Christian Church in Craig Co., Va. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. GRAHAM, Marguerite Hardy, 88, of Rt. 6, Bedford, died Saturday, December 3, 1994 at Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of George Wesley Graham and was retired from Bedford County Schools in 1971, where she taught for many years. Mrs. Graham was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church. She was a daughter of the late Joseph Griffin Hardy and Annie White Hardy. Surviving are a son, J. Wesley Graham; two daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Ben Beniger, Elsie and Courtney Hatcher, all of Bedford; grandchildren, Robyn and Ellen Hatcher, Lynchburg, Mark and Caroline Hatcher, Bedford, and Steven G. Beniger of Sterling; g reat-grandchildren, Todd and Cody Hatcher, Lynchburg, John and Orry Hatcher, Bedford; three sisters, Jane Hardy, Clementine Johnson, both of Bedford, and Elizabeth Via of Roanoke; three brothers, Ralph Hardy, Bedford, Griffin Hardy, Roanoke, and Joseph Hardy, Pulaski. A memorial service will be held Monday, 11 a.m., at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Phillip Hunsicker, following a private interment in Oakwood Cemetery. HALE, William E., (``Curly""), 82, of Salem, died Friday, December 2, 1994. He was preceded in death by a son, William E. (Bill) Hale Jr. He is survived by his wife, Orpha J. HART, Winfred Henry, 96, of Wabash, Indiana, formerly of Roanoke, Va., died Saturday, December 3, 1994 in Wabash, Indiana. He was born October 7, 1898, at 110 Commonwealth Ave. N.E., to William Henry and Flora White Hart. His grandfather, Dr. Henry Clay Hart, a hydro-therapist, came to Big Lick in 1875, from Corning New York, and operated the Valley Health Institute in the Zac hariah Robinson Tavern, which was located near the present intersection of Williamson Road and Orange Avenue. He was a charter member of Grandin Court Baptist Church of Roanoke, where he served faithfully in many capacities from 1945 until he moved in 1985, to Indiana, to be with his daughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Crawford Hart (1900-1970), who was also a very active charter member of the same church. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Winfred H. Hart Jr. and Lois C. Hart, William D. Hart and Jeanne B. Hart, all of Roanoke; one daughter, Celia Hart Carson of Wabash, Indiana; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Ralph S. Hart, Roanoke; and a sister, Lenora H. Baughan, Norfolk. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Sherwood Memorial Park, with the Rev. Robert M. Hamner officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made, in his memory, to Grandin Court Baptist Church Library. He spent many happy hours at his home binding and repairing books for the library.

HEDGE, Charlie T., 81, of Roanoke, died Friday, December 2, 1994. He was a veteran of World War II; a retired employee of Reliance Universal and a member of Hollins Road Church of the Brethren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Puckett Hedge; five brothers and four sisters. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Janet L. and Earl B. Flora, Salem; son and daughter-in-law, Roger Lee and Jean C. Hedge of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Kimberly Leigh Williamson, Phoenix, Arizona, Sheila Lambert, Roanoke, Letitia LeCompte, Baltimore, Md., Melanie Smith, Roanoke, Ben Flora, Boones Mill; great-grandchildren, Sarah LeCompte, Ashley Kidd and Kayla Lambert; sisters, Myert Harmon, Gladys Bale both of Roanoke. HEUSER, Frances Archer, 67, of Wytheville, died Friday, December 2, 1994 at her residence. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late R. Roy and Ada Aker Archer. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and was retired from the Radford Army Ammunitions Plant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Heuser, a son, Perry Kim Hearn, a sister, Louise Via, and a brother, Bob Archer. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn Walker and Perry Ahmed of Burke, Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Vance Eugene and Brenda Hearn of Severn, Md.; one brother, Roy Archer of Rt. 1, Max Meadows, Va.; three grandchildren, Renee Denisanne Painter, Christian Shane Hearn, Mary Frances Christina Hearn; one great-grandchild, Justin Adam Painter. Funeral services wil l be held Sunday, December 4, 1994 at 3 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Steve Ridenhour officiating. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. JONES, Aline H. 64, of Eagle Rock, Gala Section, died Friday, December 2, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bowman T. Jones. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Dale A. and Lois Jones, Fincastle; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Michael Ward, Richmond; two grandchildren, Amber Lynn Jones, Fincastle and Daniel B. Ward, Richmond; four sisters, Mildred Kern, Irene Persinger, Beulah McSherry and Garneth Robinson, all of Clifton Forge. KESLER, William F., 92, of Front Royal, also of Tavares, Fla., died Friday, December 2, 1994, in Florida. Jerry, as he was known by his many friends, was born in Salem June 1, 1902, the son of the late Robert Lee and Cary Louvada Kesler. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Front Royal. He was employed as a machinis t by Norfolk & Western Railway and the American Viscose Corporation. In 1938, he was transferred to the Viscose Plant in Front Royal, where he was in charge of the machine shop, blacksmith shop, and storeroom. After 43 years, he retired from the American Viscose Plant and enjoyed working on his 162 acre farm and bass fishing on the lakes in Central Florida during the winter. He was a charter member of the Masonic Unity Lodge #146 in Front Royal for 50 years and served as a member of the Waren County School Board. Jerry is survived by his wife of 75 years, Myrtle H. Kesler; and three children, Norma Jean Oakes, Front Royal, William F. Kesler Jr., Tavares, Fla. and Robert M. Kesler, MD, Norfolk; two brothers, Gilbert and Frank Kesler, reside in Salem. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Two daughters preceded him in death, Frances Wood and Louvada Sutton, who died some years ago. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem, with the Rev. R. Stuart Carlton officiating. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery. KESTING, Thelma Margaret Turner, 72, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, December 2, 1994, at her home. She was a member of North Roanoke Baptist Church where she participated in the Singing Saints choir until her illness prevented. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond H. Sr. and Stella Cline Turner and a brother , Charles L. Turner. Surviving are her husband, Walter Kesting; son, Tom Kesting, Woodstock, Ga.; daughter, Carolyn Sue Pugh and husband, Ron, Roanoke; five grandchildren, Tammy Kesting, Terry Gaisford, Shannon Lyle, Todd Kesting and Sherry Pugh; brother, Raymond H. KIRK, Ollie Clinton, 89, of Route 7, Rocky Mount, and formerly of Penhook died Friday, December 2, 1994, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Arrington Kirk. LESTER, Paul Gideon, 84, of Riner, departed this life on Friday, December 2, 1994, at his home. He was the son of the late Amon G. and Emmazettie Burnett Lester. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Church Of The Brethren. Mr. Lester was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Spence Lester. MARCHANT, Col. U. S. A. F. Ret., John Chesley, 85 of Moneta, Va. formerly of Amherst, Mass. died Sunday, November 27, 1994. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Marmon Marchant. A graduate of Stockbridge School, Amherst, Mass. in 1928 and National University Law School in Washington, D.C., he was a career Air Force Officer. He graduated from the Command and General Staff School and the Armed Forces Staff College from 1958-1962 he was professor of Air Science and Head of the Department of Air Science at the University of Massachusetts, he then became Director of Security for the University of Massachusetts and Coach of the Stockbridge Rifle Team. He was a member of the Stockbridge School Alumni Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, Sigma Delta Kappa Legal Fraternity, The Air Force Association, Hartford, (Conn.) Chapter #56 of National Sojourners Inc., the Grand Lodge of England, Military Order of the Carabao, Washington, D.C., the Pacific Lodge A.F. & A.F. and the Balboa Lodge A.F. & A.M., Amherst, Mass., The Chiefs of Police Association, the International Association of College and University Security Directors, and the 8th Fighter Group Association. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jacqueline and James Colangelo, Springfield, Va., Helaire and Robert Webster, Manteo, N.C. and Roberta and David Jennings, Moneta, Va.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Al Collotta, Boston, Mass.; two sisters-in-law, Bess Pierce, N.M. and Madeline Marchant, Fla. and a number of nieces and nephews. McCLURE, Patricia O., 70, of Roanoke, died Thursday, December 1, 1994, at Stanford University Medical Center, Stanford, Ca. Surviving are her seven children, Peggy McClure Griffin, Marietta, Ga., Edward E. McClure, Roanoke, James Douglas McClure, Tampa, Fla., Kathleen O. McClure, San Francisco, Ca., John R. McClure, Roanoke, David A. McClure, Cornelius, N.C. and Carolyn M. McClure, Roanoke. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Tom Griffin, Tiffany Griffin and Kevin McClure and close friends, Doyle W. Penley, Wilmington, N.C. and Steven E. Hagenau, Clearwater, Fla. A memorial mass will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesay, December 7, 1994, at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Roanoke. MORGAN, Elizabeth Jean Edwards, 62, of Christiansburg, died Saturday, December 3, 1994, at her home. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Carolyn Morgan, Pilot; one daughter, Kimberly Elston, Berlin, Pa.; two grandchildren, Jacob and Joseph Morgan; a sister, Barbara Bright, Cocoa Beach, Florida. MUSTARD, Vera Irene, 81, of Mechanicsburg, died Saturday, December 3, 1994, in a Wythe County hospital. She was born November 19, 1913, at Mechanicsburg, Va. the daughter of the late Howard Craig and Callie Harman Walker. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Craig and Eleanor Mustard, Jackie Wayne and Carolyn Mustard, James Michael and Carrie Mustard all of Mechanicsburg; one sister, Mrs. Larry (Phyllis) Chewning, Mechanicsburg; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. PRILLAMAN, Mamon Charles, 85, of Honaker, died Friday, December 2, 1994. He was a native of Callaway, Va., and a Peninsula resident for 41 years. Mr. Prillaman retired from Newport News SHipping and Dry Dock Company as a sheet metal mechanic in 1971 after 41 years of service. Survived by his wife, Opal Y. Prillaman; his daughter, Nancy P. Price, Blacksburg; his son, William E. Prillaman, Newport News; four sisters, Fannie P. Mullins, Newport News, Nell P. Vanzant, Mesa, Ariz., Clara P. Nash and Evelyn P. SHUMATE, Carl C., 91, of Princeton, W.Va. died Thursday, December 1, 1994, in Princeton. He retired from Shumate Furniture Co. in Princeton, a business he owned and operated with is brothers. He was active in numerous civic activities throuhgout his business career. Survivors include one son, Johnnie C. Shumate of Stockbridge, Ga.; one daughter, Bonnie S. Lawrence of Little River, S.C.; two brothers, George Shumate of Princeton and Edsel Shumate of Radford, Va.; one sister, Lillian Ferguson of Bozoo, W.Va.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. SIMMONS, Gordon, (``Doc''), 83, of Vinton, passed away Friday, December 2, 1994. He was a retired boiler-maker from the N & W Railroad after 43 years service and attended the Blue Ridge Baptist Church located on Hardy Road in Vinton. He also enjoyed ``Harness-Making'' as a hobby. He is survived by his wife, Doris Odell Davis Simmons; two brothers, Paul Simmons of Collinsville and Tommy W. Simmons of Salem; three sisters, Addie Hurt of Roanoke County, Louella Hopkins of Roanoke, and Annie Lyle of Roanoke County. Also numerous nieces and nephews. VAUGHT, Eleanor W., 76, of Rt. #2, Rural Retreat, widow of Greek Fox Vaught, died early Saturday, December 3, 1994 in the Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg. She was born in Rural Retreat, Va., the daughter of the late Walter S. and Carrie Cormany Waddell, a member of the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church and a retired secretary with the nursing department of Wythe County Community Hospital. She is survived by two sons, James S. Vaught, Rural Retreat, Joe W. Vaught, Bland; one sister, Rosemary W. Hall, Roanoke; four grandchildren, Sally White, Mary Alice Spencer, Samuel Joseph Vaught and Laura Elizabeth Vaught; and one great-grandchild, Steven Box. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, December 5, 1994 at the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Buford W. Hankins officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat. The body will be taken to the church one hour before service time. The family requests that those who prefer, may make memorials to the Rural Retreat United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday evening at the Lindsey Funeral Home. Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, is in charge of arrangements.

VIERS, James William (``Bill''), 67, of Radford, died Saturday, December 3, 1994, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was a World War II veteran and a retired employee of Hercules Inc. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Viers; a son, Jimmy Viers and a granddaughter, Leslie Sniegon. Surviving are his wife, Edith B. Viers of Radford; a daughter, Sherry V. Porter of Riner; his mother, Frances G. Viers of Fairlawn and a brother, Rudolph L. (Jack) Viers of Fairlawn. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, at the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jim Cochran officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Radford Wesleyan Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home or anytime at the residence, 1013 Lawrence Street in Radford.

WALKER, Mittie Davis, 94, of Westminister Canterbury, Lynchburg, died Thursday, December 1, 1994. She was the widow of E. M. Walker. Surviving are one son, James Davis Walker of Abiline, Texas; one brother, John William Davis of Roanoke; four nieces. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in Evergreen Burial Park with Dr. Charles Fuller officiating. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
