SCHOOL DESIGN DESERVES PRAISE

Congratulations to the Montgomery County School Board and its architectural firm, Motley and Associates, on receiving a state award for "outstanding architecture" for the Kipps Elementary School (see Current, Nov. 26).

It is especially gratifying in our frequently overlooked portion of the state to have the knowledgeable and professionally qualified judges describe the Kipps school in the following words: "This project excels in all phases. Architecturally, there is a real sense of public and private spaces. Nice use of colors and graphics. A humanistic, child-like, fun place for children."

It is likewise heartwarming to note that the children, the ultimate users of the facility, heartily endorse the evaluation by the judges. We must always bear in mind that schools are for the students. For them to feel that the school is attractive and "fun" says much for the design judgment of the architects and of the building committee of the School Board.
