NAMES & CHANGES

Roanoke architectural firm expands

Hughes Associates Architects in Roanoke has announced the addition of three staff positions: BRENT L. STEVENS has joined the firm as project architect, to coordinate design development and construction document activities. Stevens has nine years of architectural and construction experience and previously was employed by Breakell Inc.

Also, DAVID A. PUGH has been named an associate. Pugh has more than 10 years of architectural experience and formerly was employed by Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern.

SANDRA S. MORAN has been appointed business manager. Moran formerly was self-employed, offering business and accounting services. She has more than 15 years of experience, with specialized knowledge in the construction industry.

BANKING

H. CLARKE CURTIS has been named to Crestar Bank's Roanoke board of directors. Curtis is a funeral director and member of the board of Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home in Roanoke. He also is president of the Western District Funeral Directors Association.

COLLEGES

MARGARET M. GRAYSON has been appointed to the Virginia Western Community College local advisory board as a representative of Roanoke. Grayson teaches Latin at North Cross School and is chairwoman of its foreign language department. She also is a visiting professor in Latin at Hollins College.

COMMUNICATIONS

TARA CHURCH and STEPHANIE POE have joined BTI Telecommunications Services in Roanoke as communication analysts. BTI is a Raleigh, N.C.-based long-distance company.

GOVERNMENT

JESSEE HALL, deputy director of finance for Roanoke, recently was elected to the executive board for the Virginia Government Finance Officers Association.

HEALTH CARE

DR. JOE FOLEY of Salem has been named the 1994 Chiropractor of the Year by the Virginia Society of Chiropractic. Foley also was elected president of the organization, and DR. DIANE DeREU-FOLEY of Salem was elected to the board of directors as the Western region representative.

MANUFACTURING

JERRY DODSON has joined Singer Furniture Co. as senior vice president of operations. He comes to Singer from Universal Furniture Co., where he was vice president in charge of quality and production in its Asian operations. Previously he was president of United Globe and vice president of manufacturing at Broyhill Furniture Industries.

Dodson replaces Ed Parrish, who has rejoined a previous employer, Coopers and Lybrand.

Although Dodson's office will be in High Point, N.C., he will be spending much time at each of the manufacturing operations, including Roanoke.

DARRELL SMITH, marketing program manager for Courtaulds Performance Films in Martinsville, has been recognized for his contribution to the International Window Film Association in Scottsdale, Ariz. He is chairman of the legislative committee, coordinating and directing efforts in dealing with federal, state and local film regulations. The association's membership consists of manufacturers, distributors and installers of commercial, residential and automobile window film.

MEDIA

LISA BENNETT DOWNIE has been named a senior account executive at WSET-TV's Roanoke bureau. Her responsibilities will include regional sales and marketing in Virginia and North Carolina. Downie has been with the Lynchburg-based station for nine years.

NONPROFITS

Voice of the Blue Ridge, a nonprofit organization which supports reading services for the blind in Southwest and Central Virginia, has elected officers for 1995: DEBRA HELMS, case worker for the Virginia Department for the Visually Handicapped, president; DEBORAH OEHLSCHLAEGER, attorney with Plunkett, Logan and Oehlschlaeger, vice president; BARBARA THOMAS, payroll administrator for Southwest Management Co., treasurer; LEONARD D. HATCH JR., retired national bank examiner, special events treasurer; and CHRISTINE WHITE, community volunteer, secretary.
