BROWN, Elizabeth Cloyd, 71, of Pulaski, died Sunday afternoon, December 4, 1994, at her home. She was born in Atkins, Va., on February 24, 1923, and was the daughter of the late James Monroe Brown and Lizzie Miller Brown. She was a retired bank teller with Nations Bank, Pulaski, having 20 years of service and was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, Pulaski. She was also a member of the Thorn Spring Golf Club. Surviving is one cousin, W. W. Hopper, Eden, N.C. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 6, 1994, at 2 p.m. from the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va., with the Rev. Steven Weston officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family wishers that memorials be made to the charity of one's choice. BROWN, Lula T., 85, of Chalottesville, died Monday, December 5, 1994, in Richmond. The widow of Hunter T. Brown, she is survived by three daughters, Janna B. Taylor, Clinton, Tenn., Julia B. Bouck, Bon Air, Va., Sarah B. Adams, Huntsville, Texas; seven granchildren, Gordon, Julie and Justin Taylor, Timothy and Andrew Bouck, Elizabeth and Edward Adams; a niece, Mary Ellen Sexton; a nephew, James Timothy Sexton. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 7, 1994, at 10 a.m. at Broadus Mem. Baptist Church, Charlottesville. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Roanoke. CARTER, Linda Marie, 54, of 1111 Oakcrest Street, Bedford, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 1994. She was born in Bedford County on September 28, 1940, a daughter of the late Jake Dooley and Lola Carter Dooley. She was an employee of Rubatex and a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, George William Carter; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kim J. and Todd Fowler, Jacki J. and Terry Overstreet, Misty J. and Bobby Croft, all of Bedford, Lori J. and Calvin Angus, Goode; sister, Carolyn Delores West, Danielsville, Ga.; brother Andrew D. Dooley, Thaxton; a grandson, Brandon Scott Johnson; and three granddaughters, Lauren Marie Orange, Christina Ann Gray and Lindsay Renee Fowler. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 7, 1994, at 2 p.m. from Updike Funeral Chap el, Bedford, by Rev. Earl Ragland. Interment in Peaksview Christian Church Cemetery. DONATHAN, Charlotte Ann Dickerson, 53, of Christiansburg, died Sunday, December 4, 1994, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Mrs. Donathan was born in Montgomery Co. to the late William Harvey and Icie Martin Dickerson. Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Terry L. and Gladys Dickerson, Christiansburg; two brothers, Nathern Harvey Dickerson, Blacksburg and Charles William Dickerson, Christiansburg; four nieces and two nephews; a special friend Billy Collins, Christiansburg. EPPERLY, Charlie Wyatt Sr., 88, of Salem, died Monday, December 5, 1994. He was a member of the West Salem Baptist Church for 36 years and is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ernestine Helm Epperly; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Jr. and Linda Epperly, Roanoke; four daughters and sons-in-laws, Serita and Charles Fry, Roanoke, Delores and Harold Hall, Falls Church, Tressia and J. W. ``Dee"" Detrick, Mechanicsville, Willa and Dan Angle, Rocky Mount; four grandsons, Michael Fry, Salem, Stephen Epperly, Archdale, N.C., Christopher Epperly, Roanoke, Andrew Angle, Rocky Mount; a sister, Madeline Thomas, Salem. FRENCH, Dr. John David, 67, of 3432 Londonderry Ct., Roanoke, died Saturday, December 3, 1994, in Community Hospital, Roanoke. He was born in Bluefield, W.Va., on May 10, 1927, and was a son of the late George French and Elizabeth Torbet French. Dr. French was a practicing pediatrician in Martinsville and was the founder of the Children's Medical Center in Martinsville. He is survived by his wife, Linda Miles French, of the home; daughters, Margaret French Blevins, Martinsville, Betty French Blankenship, Matthews, N.C.; sons, David Nelson French, Martinsville, Paul Robert French, Blacksburg; stepson, John David Cronise, Richmond; brother, Rober t T. ""Captain"" French, Martinsville; five grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Davis & Elkins College, 100 Campus Dr., Elkins, W.Va. 26241, c/o Alumni Office for the S. GRAY, Hilry Leon, (``Champ''), 45, of Roanoke, died Sunday, December 4, 1994. He was employed at A.R.C.-C.H.D. Industries. Champ was a very special person and loved by many. Surviving is his mother, Phoebe S. Gray Cole; sisters and brother-in-law, Peggy and Gene Green, Blue Ridge, Betty Jean Jones, Roanoke; one niece; three nephews; special friends at the Read Road Group Home; numerous aunts and uncles. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Charles R. Doyle and the Rev. William C. Logan will officiate. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. HODGES, Curtis, 60, of Route 4, Rocky Mount, died Monday, December 5, 1994, in a Roanoke hospital. Surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, Wilson L. and Susie Hodges, Rocky Mount; four nephews, Chris Hodges, Greg Hodges, Gary Hodges, Stacey Hodges; one niece, Tracey Hodges; one uncle, Howard Hodges, Rocky Mount. HOSTETTER, Buster Brown, 84, of Lexington, died Sunday, December 4, 1994, in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. He was born in Rockbridge County, July 24, 1910, the son of the late George A. and Tina Smith Hostetter and preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Clark Hostetter. He was retired from the Locher Silica Plant in Goshen. Surviving are his sister, Ragie Tyree, Lexington; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Lomax Funeral Chapel by the Rev. William Strickler and the Rev. Ballard Shepherd. Burial will follow in the Glasgow Cemetery.

MARTIN, Waver Virginia, 75, of Pearisburg, died Monday, December 5, 1994. Miss Martin was a member of the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church and was a retired employee of the Hoechst-Celanese Corp. She was a member of the Angels Rest Rebecca Lodge, a member of L.A.P.M. Cascade #13, and the past Nobel Grand Club. She is survived by four brothers and sisters-in-laws, Odell and Phyllis Martin, Garnet and Nancy Martin, Foster and Mabel Martin, all of Pearisburg, Haven and Doris Martin, Roanoke; one sister and brother-in-law, Glenna and Woodson Lucas, Akron, Ohio; sister-in-law, Margaret Martin, Pearisburg; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 7,1994, at 11 a.m. in the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fredderick Long officiating. McCREADY, Ruby Richardson, 83, of Marion, widow of George ``Jack"" McCready, died Sunday, December 4, 1994, from complications following surgery. Mrs. McCready was a charter member of the Marion Garden Club and had won numerous ribbons for her arrangements. She also held offices at the District level. She was a founding member of the Smyth County Historical Society and instrumental in the establishment of the present location of the Museum. Mrs. McCready served on the Smyt h County Library Board and the Literacy Council. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and had served on various committees and as circle leader and was responsible for the original renovation of the parlor. Mrs. McCready is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, George H. Jr. and Felice McCready, Martinsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia M. and Matthew Groff, Silver Spring, Md.; a granddaughter, Michelle Groff, Blacksburg; two grandsons, Andy McCready and wife, Karen, Pulaski, Michael Groff, Silver Spring, Md.; one brother, Harold Lloyd Richardson, Yuma, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews. The viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 1994, from 3 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Funeral Home on Main Street, Marion. NEWMAN, Mae S., 86, of Montvale, died Sunday, December 4, 1994, in a local hospital. She was the widow of Claude D. Newman. Surviving are a stepson and wife, Claude B. and Alma S. Newman, Vinton; a stepdaughter and husband, Doris N. and Elbert (``Bink"") Powers, Blue Ridge; stepgrandson and wife, Steve and Faye Powers, New Castle; stepgreat-grandson, Chris S. POTTS, Violet East, 51, of Pulaski, died early Monday morning, December 5, 1994, at her home. She was born on May 6, 1943, and was the daughter of the late Guy C. East and Ethel Thornton East. She attended Trinity Baptist Church, Pulaski. Surviving are her husband, Larry J. S. Potts, Sr., Pulaski; one son, Tim Cox, Fairlawn, Va.; one stepdaughter, Angela Parnell, Pulaski; one stepson, Larry J. S. Potts, Jr., Pulaski; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Maudie and William C. Hodge, Pulaski, Canous Phillips, Dublin, Daffron Golliher, Pulaski, Mozelle and Woodson Duncan, Pulaski; two brothers and sisters-in-laws, Gilbert C. and Patricia Hull East, Pulaski, Curtis G. and Jane Hurst East, Dublin; two grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren. SERBER, William Reese Sr., of Salem, passed away Monday, December 5, 1994 at the Salem home of his daughter, Lyla Ann. He was born on April 23, 1917 in Richlands, Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lyla, and his son, Lyle Lee Serber. Mr. Serber was a well-known and respected lumberman and real estate developer. He is survived by three children, a daughter; Lyla A. Serber Moore, Salem; two sons, William Reese Serber Jr., Ocean City, N. J. and Charles Dennis Serber, Salem; three grandchildren, Leslie of Los Angeles, Calif., Lyle of Dallas, Texas, and Luke of Lexington; one sister, Kathleen S. Lee; one niece, Betty Owen Crawford, both of Bluefield, W.Va.; one nephew, Dr. Jerry C. Lee, LaJolla, Calif. SHORTER, Ethel Broyles, 84, of Salem, died Monday, December 5, 1994, at Richfield Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Edward Shorter. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald E. and Mollie W. Shorter, Leesburg; three sisters, Maude B. Hixson, Thelma B. Berndt, Oretha B.
