Representatives from more than 50 local businesses gathered in McBryde Hall at Virginia Tech to relate the details of their jobs - from educational requirements to their daily activities - to students eager to follow in their footsteps.
All participating students attended a mandatory session on interviewing skills and career decision making and selected two of 35 sessions conducted by volunteer speakers in different careers.
The sponsors plan the event in the fall to help students with the curriculum choices they face in the second semester of their freshman year that will affect the rest of their high school education.
The high schools plan to follow up on the career ideas by getting students to think about the skills they must have for anticipated professions and how to go about getting them.
The Montgomery County and Giles County school systems and the Greater Blacksburg, Montgomery County-Christiansburg and Giles County chambers of commerce sponsor the event.
Kathy Pinkerton, an artist with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, will teach fifteen Blacksburg HIgh School students about "DRAWING WITH PAPER" today at a craft workshop in her Blacksburg studio.
She will demonstrate how she uses paper pulp as a textured and colorful drawing medium and lead students through the steps of making paper by hand.
The workshop is sponsored through a partnership between the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Blacksburg Regional Art Association.

The pupils recently released the mature butterflies, giving them a royal send-off to their winter home of Mexico.
The 1994 HERITAGE DAY celebration at Shawsville Elementary School gave pupils a chance to learn about the culture and traditions of the area's Appalachian ancestry.
