Liberty used its relentless pressure defense to overwhelm Buckingham County 103-49 in a Seminole District boys' basketball game on Tuesday night.
The Minutemen (1-1, 1-1) led only by four points after the first quarter, but outscored the Knights 85-35 the rest of the way as Buckingham County had trouble with Liberty's experienced lineup.
Steven Shrader scored 17 points to lead a balanced attack for the Minutemen. Gregg Reynolds added 14 points, Raymond Arrington had 12 and Neal Roop and Robert Carson each contributed 10.
Julian Baker scored 10 points for Buckingham (0-3, 0-3).

CHRISTIANSBURG - John Hairston scored a game-high 19 points as the Blue Demons opened their season with a non-district victory.
Christiansburg built a 34-20 halftime lead and kept a comfortable margin the rest of the game. Darrell Calloway added 14 points for the victors.
Tazewell (1-1 overall) was led by Kondwani Patterson's 17 points.

MONETA - Cornelius Foxx scored 24 points and Hunter Hoggatt had 22 to lead the Golden Eagles past the Governors in a Seminole District game.
Staunton River (1-1, 1-1) bolted to a 24-8 lead after one quarter.
The Golden Eagles hit seven 3-pointers. Foxx had three 3-pointers and Hoggatt made two.
Delane Fitzgerald scored 26 points and Chad Loving added 14 for Nelson County.

SHAWSVILLE - Roanoke Valley Christian came back twice in the second half, once from eight points in the third quarter and again from four points in the fourth, to hand the Shawnees their 39th consecutive defeat.
Richard Booth and Joel Nester combined for 11 points to push the Eagles over the top in the final period. Nester finished with 19 points for RVC (3-0) and Booth added 18.
For Shawsville (0-2), Tommy Jones had 19 points and five rebounds and Jeremy Nichols added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Greg Hankins, a sophomore, went 5-for-5 and finished with 12.

COVINGTON- Robby Huffman hit 8 of 11 free throws in the last two minutes to help Craig County win its season opener.
The Rockets used a 26-point fourth quarter to seal the win after the Indians (1-3) had led 31-25 going into the final period.
Jamie Fisher led Craig County with 21 points while Huffman finished with 11.
Covington Boys' Home's Kenney Prescott led all scorers with 26 points and had 18 rebounds.
