EDWARD MADIGAN, BUSH CABINET MEMBER, DIES

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Edward Madigan, secretary of agriculture in the Bush administration and a 10-term congressman from central Illinois, died Wednesday. He was 58.

He was diagnosed with lung cancer earlier this year and was hospitalized last week. He died from complications of the cancer, a spokesman for St. John's Hospital said Wednesday night.

Madigan, a moderate Republican from Lincoln, was elected to the House in 1972.
