MAN FOUND SHOT AFTER CRASH

Police discovered a man with a gunshot wound Wednesday afternoon after his car crashed into a Gainsboro Road fire hydrant.

Jerry Lynwood Bryant, 33, was found at Gainsboro Road and Patton Avenue about 2:30 p.m. by a Roanoke sheriff's deputy and Roanoke police.

Bryant, of Roanoke, apparently had been driving south when his car veered off the road and struck the hydrant, a Roanoke police news release said.

Bryant had been shot under the left arm and was bleeding profusely. He was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery, the release said.

A nursing supervisor would not release any information on Bryant's condition, but did say he still was being treated.

More than $100 in cash was found in the vehicle. Police would not speculate where the shooting took place, nor would they make any comment concerning possible suspects.
