That's choreographer Jenefer Davies' introduction to "Chiaroscuro," a full-length multimedia dance performance reflecting the light-and-shadow painting technique made famous by Leonardo da Vinci.
The show, performed by Hollins College's Moveri dance company, will be held at the Science Museum of Western Virginia/Hopkins Planetarium at 8 p.m. tonight and Saturday, and at 3 p.m. Sunday. The photograph at right was taken with a two-minute shutter opening as the dancers moved around with flashlights - as they do throughout "Chiaroscuro."
"What you'll see is not always just dance," says Davies, a Hollins College graduate who choreographed the work as part of her master's thesis at George Washington University. "I've always been interested in light being manipulated by the body and how shadows can become part of a dance."
Video and slides will also be integrated into the planetarium dance, as will music and graphics.
Tickets to the Hollins-sponsored event are $3 for students, $5 for adults. 384-6078 for more information.
