Vinton Police Lieutenant William Brown said car owners began reporting either shattered or pierced windows early Thursday morning.
"We've got some very angry people here, " Brown said.
He said the cars, which were parked throughout Vinton, were damaged by BB shots fired from a moving car.
No witnesses have come forward, Brown said, and there were no suspects as of Thursday evening.
Brown said while anyone can purchase a BB gun, some types can fire a shot comparable in impact to a .22 caliber gun.
"I've seen malicious wounding charges come about from BB gun shots that pierced the skin," Brown said.
