THANKSGIVING FEASTS - IN AND TO-GO

A few hard-working volunteers at the Christiansburg Community Center served dinner to more than 50 people at the center on Thanksgiving Day and sent out another 50 dinners to elderly and sick residents who could not leave their homes.

Ronnie Caldwell, Carol Franklin and Regina Berger prepared and served the meals at the center and, with the help of neighborhood and church volunteers, delivered the other 50 meals around the community.

They accomplished their meals project with help and donations from 39 local businesses, including grocery stores, church and civic groups, local restaurants and businesses as diverse as a carwash and a financial services corporation.

After sharing their Thanksgiving cooking with so many on the holiday, the three center volunteers had enough food left the next day to serve another 35 senior citizens and needy in the community on Nov. 25.

The center is located at 570 High St. in Christiansburg.

Caldwell said the community dinner went so well that the three coordinators plan to make it an annual event.
