AGRICULTURE
BRUCE L. HIATT, vice president of the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation board of directors, has been re-elected to a two-year term. He has been vice president since 1988 and has been on the board since 1981. Hiatt owns and operates an apple, peach and cherry orchard in Cana. He is on the board of directors for Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Co. and is also vice president of Carroll County Farm Bureau. In July, he was appointed by Gov. George Allen to the plant pollination advisory board.
CONTRACTORS
FLOYD N. GREENE has joined Building Specialists Inc., general contractors in Roanoke, as project manager. He will be responsible for short-term projects, production management and project negotiations. He previously was employed by the Roanoke Country Club as assistant tennis pro. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in architecture.
FOOD PROCESSORS
DEBBIE L. CUSTER has been appointed vice president of sales at the Quibell Corp. of Roanoke in a complete restructuring of the beverage operation. Her sales staff includes TOM PALMER, North Atlantic regional sales manager; TIM DYE, Mid-Atlantic regional sales manager, JANA BRYANT, Southern regional sales manager; and FRAN LEFFEL, sales and marketing coordinator.
HOSPITALITY
ANGELA BARTLEY has been appointed catering sales manager at Roanoke Airport Marriott hotel. She will be responsible for sales of catering for groups of more than 50 people who do not require guest rooms. Bartley formerly worked for Marriott Management Services
JEFFREY B. FORD has been named national sales manager at The Homestead resort hotel. Ford, a 14-year veteran in the hospitality industry, returns to the Hot Springs resort, having most recently been director of sales and marketing for Glades Springs Resort and Conference Center in Beckley, W.Va. He was convention services manager and director of convention services at The Homestead from 1980 to 1990.
MEDICINE
DR. WILLIAM W.S. BUTLER III of Roanoke has been appointed to the Virginia Board of Health Professions, which is an advisory board to the 12 health regulatory boards within the Department of Health Professions. Butler, who represents the board of medicine, replaces Dr. Anthony C. Butera.
DR. ROBERT STOUGH will be a family practice physician in Buchanan on a part-time basis beginning in January. He will be staffing a new clinic, part of Carilion Health System. Carilion is leasing a medical facility owned by Internal Medicine Associates and will complete the necessary interior renovations. Stough is now in the family practice residency program at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
NONPROFITS
New officers have been elected to the board of directors of the Roanoke Valley Chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals: FRANK VAN BALEN, president of VFP Inc., president; LYNDA McGARRY, Lewis-Gale Psychiatric Center, vice president; BEVERLY DeSCHON, A1 Steel Fabricators Inc., treasurer; MARIE REID, retired, corresponding secretary; and SANDY OBENSHAIN, Beauty on the Move, recording secretary.
At Virginia's Explore Park, DAN ABBOTT has been added to its team of full-time interpreters. Abbott, who is a descendant of the indigenous Nanticoke and Choptank people of Maryland's Eastern Shore, comes to Explore from Froehling and Robertson Inc., where he was an environmental scientist. He previously worked at the park on a part-time basis and has conducted presentations on Native American culture before educational and civic organizations since 1986.
