TROUT STOCKING HITS HALFWAY MARK; FISHING PRESSURE REPORTEDLY LIGHT

The fall trout stocking program has been hard hit by dry weather, but Department of Game and Inland Fisheries officials say they have completed 50 percent of the planned releases.

Even where stocking has taken place, fishing pressure has been reported light, which means trout should be available through the winter, said George Duckwall, the department's cold-water hatcheries manager.

Here is a county-by county list of the streams that have been stocked this fall:

ALBEMARLE: Sugar Hollow Reservoir.

ALLEGHANY: Clifton Forge Reservoir.

AUGUSTA: Braley Pond, Upper Sherando Lake, Lower Sherando Lake, Hearthstone Lake, Elkhorn Lake.

CARROLL: Laurel Fork Creek, Little Reed Island Creek.

MONTGOMERY: South Fork Roanoke River.

PATRICK: Dan River (below powerhouse).

ROANOKE: Glade Creek, Roanoke River (in Roanoke and Salem), Tinker Creek.

ROCKINGHAM: Briery Lake, Hone Quarry Lake.

CRAIG: Potts Creek.

FLOYD: Burkes Fork, Little River.

FREDERICK: Winchester Lake, Clearbrook Lakes.

GRAYSON: Elks Creek, Hales Lake.

RUSSELL: Big Cedar Creek.

SCOTT: Bark Camp Lake.

SMYTH: South Fork Holston River (lower).

TAZEWELL: Lake Witten.

WASHINGTON: Whitetop Laurel (lower), Bear Tree Lake.

WYTHE: Cripple Creek.

The following is a list of streams scheduled to be stocked before the end of the year:

AMHERST: Pedlar River (lower).

BATH: Back Creek, Jackson River (Hidden Valley), Jackson River (Virginia 623), Bullpasture River, Spring Run, Douthat Lake.

BUCHANAN: Dismal River.

DICKENSON: Pound River, Russell Fork (Bartlick).

FREDERICK: Cedar Creek.

GILES: Big Stoney Creek.

HENRY: Smith River (dam and lower).

HIGHLAND: Bullpasture River.

LEE: Martins Creek.

MADISON: Hughes River.

NELSON: Tye River.

ROCKBRIDGE: Mill Creek, South River, Maury River.

ROCKINGHAM: North Fork Shenandoah River.

SHENANDOAH: Stoney Creek, Passage Creek.
