Some 400 production workers at Singer Furniture Co. in Roanoke will get an extra week off during the holiday period, but they'll also lose a week's pay.
The company said Monday the Roanoke plant will shut down the week of Dec. 19 in addition to the paid week's vacation scheduled for the week between Christmas and New Year's.
The plant makes Singer's more expensive lines and has already met the inventory needs of those customers, said William G. Foster, vice president for human resources.
Other Singer plants will operate as usual during the Dec. 19 furlough week, he said.
