Offices consolidated
CHRISTIANSBURG - Three familiar farm agencies have been brought together under one roof and one name in Montgomery County. The Farm Service Agency office at 7 N. Franklin St. combines the activities of the former Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, the Farmers Home Administration and the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation.
The new agency also offers conservation cost-share assistance under the Agriculture Conservation Program and cost-sharing and land rental payments for the Conservation Reserve Program. The new name and restructuring are a result of a U.S. Department of Agriculture restructuring that went into effect in October.
Guy W. Wall is the acting chairman of the Montgomery Farm Service Agency. W. Terry Altizer is the county executive director.

Farm assistance
CHRISTIANSBURG - The Montgomery County Farm Service Agency has announced that farmers can apply now for 1995 Agricultural Conservation Program assistance. Farmers can sign up for long-term projects through Dec. 30 and for individual projects through September 1995.
Program funds for 1995 will be about half the amount allocated in previous years. Eligible projects include building animal waste storage structures, stream protection, planting trees or improving existing timber stands, and correcting erosion problems.
The agency says conservation plans and systems must be in place and practices implemented by Jan. 1, 1995, for producers to be eligible for 1995 U.S. Department of Agriculture benefits.
The Farm Service Agency also has announced that elections for the Montgomery County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee, which were to be held this month, have been rescheduled because of the agriculture department's recent restructuring. Current committee members will continue until a new election is held next fall.
For more information, call W. Terry Altizer, acting county executive director, 382-3961.
