ROANOKE MAN DIES IN HOUSE FIRE

A 65-year-old Northwest Roanoke man was found dead from smoke inhalation early Tuesday after his bed was apparently ignited by an electric space heater, Roanoke fire officials said.

Roanoke firefighters found Harvey Maynard Brandon dead on a charred mattress in his bedroom at 12:27 a.m. Two electric heaters were close to Brandon's mattress, said Assistant Fire Marshal Jerry Percell. The fire smoldered for about an hour and was confined to the bedroom.

Investigators believe Brandon died in his sleep.
