FLOYD KNOCKS OFF CHRISTIANSBURG

Brian Harman scored 21 points, and Floyd County hit 19 of 20 free throws in handing Christiansburg its first loss, 68-52 on Tuesday night in a non-district boys' matchup.

Peter Bucklin added 13 points for the Buffaloes, who never led by fewer than five after opening a 20-10 first-quarter lead.

Bucklin and Dalton had eight rebounds each for Floyd County (2-0). Ben Kiser contributed six steals.

John Hairston paced the Blue Demons with 22 points.

ROCKY MOUNT - The Eagles outscored the Pioneers 39-28 in the second half as Franklin County coasted to its third victory without a loss this season.

Heritage lost its first game of the season, thanks to the Eagles' 71 percent field-goal shooting in the second half.

Chad Foutz led Franklin County, scoring 23 points. Carlos Holland added 14 points and seven rebounds, and K.C. Hancock and Jason Conklin each tossed in 10 points.

Calvin Buck led the Pioneers in scoring, finishing with 12 points. Jon Tardy added 10.

INDEPENDENCE - The Blue Devils got off to a strong start behind Wes Self's 11 first-quarter points and beat the Cavaliers in the first meeting between the neighboring county schools.

Bryan Boyer had 23 points and 14 rebounds for Grayson County (2-0). Self, a sophomore guard, finished with 15 points and Chad Shaffner added 12. The Blue Devils were 32-for-42 from the free-throw line while making only 13 field goals.

Matt Larrowe had 18 points for Carroll County (0-2).

Narrows 68

Giles 41

NARROWS - Patrick Bailey scored eight of his game-high 19 points in a decisive third-quarter run to help the Green Wave whip its archrival in a non-district game.

Narrows (2-1) outscored the Spartans 16-4 in the third quarter and went on to outscore Giles 40-16 in the second half. The Spartans scored half of their second-half points in the final four minutes.

Scott Vaught added 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Narrows. Bryan Pruett chipped in 14 points and had 10 rebounds, and Norman Perkins grabbed a team-high 16 rebounds.

Giles (1-1) got a team-high 10 points from Aaron Myers.

Franklin County 44

The Knights trailed after one quarter, but got rolling in the second period behind Aimee Beightol's nine points and went on to beat the Eagles in a Roanoke Valley District game.

Cave Spring (1-1, 1-0), which trailed 17-14 entering the second quarter, went to a half-court trap and outscored Franklin County 19-3 in the second quarter.

Beightol led all scorers with 17 points. Jaclyn Banks had 13 and Cheryl Rhodes added 11.

Renee Claybourne led the Eagles (3-1, 0-1) with 12 points and Susie Wilson had 10.
