ABSHIRE, Roland Vance, 68, of Woodbridge, died Friday, December 9, 1994. survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Talbot and Ann Marie Abshire, Woodbridge; daughters and son-in-law, Ellen Louise Abshire, Richmond, and Lois Anne and Markus Waite, Marietta, Ga.; granddaughter, Marie Abshire, Woodbridge; brothers and sister-in-law, E. James Abshire Jr., Buchanan, Norman Talbert and Wanda Abshire, Woodbridge; sisters and brothers-in-law, Blanche Abshire and George L. Hammond, Salem, Nadine Abshire and Curtis E. Scaggs, Centerville, Ga., Barbara Abshire and Floyd M. Markham, Buchanan, and Shirley Abshire and F. W.``Bill"" Dulaney, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 15, 1994, in Rader Buchanan Chapel, with the Rev. Ed Nicholson officiating. Interment will follow in Lithia Methodist Church Cemetery. BACKUS, Carl, 82, of Route 3, Goodview, passed away, Wednesday, December 14, 1994. Arrangements by Lotz Vinton Chapel.

BARTON, Dorothy Sue, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, December 14, 1994, at Friendship Manor. She was a retired LPN from Roanoke Memorial Hospital and a long time member of the Virginia Heights Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Noah B. and Pearl V. Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Edward Barton and sisters, Madge Austin, Mary Clark, Sally Rogers and Martha Vavilis. She is survived by her son, Eugene Edward Barton Jr. and beloved daughter-in-law, Claire Bandy Barton of Roanoke; also surviving are two grandchildren, Eugene Steven Barton of Palm City, Fla. and Carol Sue Payton of Fayetteville, N.C.; and two nieces, Lou Ann Wilson and Betty Mae Hancock both of Roanoke. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, at Evergreen Burial Park with the Rev. Dr. Daniel E. Scott officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel.

BROWN, James E., 62, of Washington, D.C. and formerly of Bedford and Roanoke, died Friday, December 9, 1994, in the V.A. Hospital in Washington, D.C. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd P. Brown, Sr., his mother, Sarah E. Brown, and a son, James P. Brown. Surviving are his wife, Erma Dickerson-Brown, Washington, D.C.; daughter, Trina Brown, Bladenburg, Md.; twins, Timothy Brown, Washington, D.C., Tina (Alfred) Johnson, Maryland; step-children, Tequilla, Johnnie, Jr., Donnie Dickerson, Tracy (Maynard) McCoy, all of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Floyd P. Jr. (Mae) Brown, Roanoke; three sisters, Dorothy (Preston) Monroe, Landover, Md., Sarah (William) Davis, Bedford, and Mary V. Brown, Washington, D.C.; mother-in-law, Willie E. Petty; sisters-in-law, Teresa P. (Jimmie) and Ernestine (James) Law, all of Roanoke; three brothers-in-law, William (Kathleen) Petty, LaSalle (Rachel) Petty, both of Washington, D.C., and James (Shirley) Petty, Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. A wake will be held one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, December 17, 1994, at The Church of Jesus Christ. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. The Robert G. DAVIS, Alexander Coy, 87, of Route 3, Galax, died Wednesday, December 14, 1994 in the Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. He was preceded in death by one son, Albert Clay Davis. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Goodson Davis, Galax; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby K. and Lura Davis, Galax; grandchildren, Barry Davis, Roanoke, Debbie Brewer, Galax; Jeff Davis, Woodlawn, Cynthia Dunn, Galax; Greta Matthews, Rock Hill; Scarlet Reeves, Galax; fifteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; five nieces and nephews. DOBBINS, James C., 73, of Christiansburg, died Monday, December 12, 1994, in the Montgomery Regional Hospital. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 15, from St. Paul United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Doug Kanney with interment in Sunset Cemetery. ELLIS, David W., 71, of Bradenton, Fla., died Monday, December 12, 1994, at HCA L.W. Blake Hospital, Bradenton, Fla. He was born in Lexington, Miss. and moved to Manatee County from Fairfax in 1989. He was a member of Vienna Baptist Church, Vienna and was a veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Miller Ellis, Bradenton, Fla.; two sons, Michael D. Ellis, Herndon, and Richard P. Ellis, Woodbridge. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Vienna, Brown & Sons Trust 100 Funeral Home, Bradenton, Fla., is in charge of arrangements. FARMER, Annie Eades, 85, of 204 Holly Hills Dr., Altavista, died Tuesday, December 13, 1994, in Gretna Health Care Center. She was the wife of the late Bernard Whitmell Farmer. Born September 25, 1909, in Halifax Co., she was a daughter of the late John Eades and Nannie Doss Eades. She was a member of Lane Memorial United Methodist Church. She is survived by one son, Roy W. Farmer of Altavista; one daughter, Lois Gray of Salem; two sisters, Elsie West of Altavista and Nora Craig of Hickory, N.C.; four grandchildren, Linda Farmer Colbert of Altavista, Karen Farmer Newton of Fredericksburg, Alison Gray Cronk of Union Hall and Michael Whitmell Gray of Rocky Mount; two great-grandchildren, Laura Colbert and Larry Colbert Jr. both of Altavista. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Green Hill Cemetery by Lory Brafford and Charlie Crouch. HALL, Larry Dean, 50, of Vinton, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 1994, at his residence. He was a computer programmer for the U.S. Government and served with the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam Era. Survivors include his wife, Laura S. Hall, Vinton; one son, Robert L. Hall, Vinton; daughter, Cornelia A. Hall, Roanoke; two brothers, Charles Hall, Blacksburg and Wallace Hall, Hillsville; three sisters, Helen Webb, Seaford, Del., Bernice Iroler and Louise Huff, both of Hillsville; a grandson, Justice Hall; a granddaughter, Caitlin Underwood. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 1994, from the Lotz Vinton Chapel. Interment private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

HARRIS, Nellie Mae, 78, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, December 13, 1994. She was the widow of E. L. Turman and Marvin G. Harris. She is survived by one son, Robert W. Turman, Roanoke. LOGAN, Bobby Allen, 67, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 1994. He was preceded in death by one son, Bobby A. Logan, Jr. in December 1993. Survivors include his wife, Mamie Logan, Brooklyn, N.Y. Four children, Mary, John, Anthony, all of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Francine, Dallas, Texas; one granddaughter, Yaminah, Brooklyn, N.Y.; a devoted sister, Ernestine Taylor; two brothers, Willie (Ellen) and Leroy (Helen) Logan, all of Roanoke; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, 8 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. The family will recieve friends one hour prior to the service at funeral home. McKAY, Rayland Everett, (``Mick''), 77, of 301 Hopkins Street, Narrows, died Wednesday, December 14, 1994, in the Giles Memorial Hospital, Pearisburg. He was born in Kent, Ohio on March 31, 1917, and was the son of the late Chancy Benjamin and Cecilia Curtess McKay. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Turman McKay, Hancock, N.Y. and Kenneth McKay, Kent, Ohio. He was a retired member of the Narrows Fire Department having served for 30 years, during this time he was a Assistant Chief of the department. He was a retired employee of the Hoechst/Celanese Fibers Company Plant at Narrows for 41 years. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member and past commander of the V.F.W. Post #6000 of Narrows and was a member of the Intermont Lodge #269 A.F. and A.M. of Narrows and the American Legion Post #68. He is survived by his wife, Morene Horrocks McKay, Narrows; daughters, Barbara M. Ayers, Narrows, Jimmie Rae Ruark, Virginia Beach; brother, Donald E. McKay, Kent, Ohio; sisters, Blanche Leahy, Hancock, N.Y., Lina Rhodes, Yuma, Ariz. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Riffe's Funeral Chapel in Narrows with the Rev. Rick Painter officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows with full military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post #6000 of Narrows, American Legion Post #68 of Narrows and American Legion Post #311 of Pembroke. The family will receive friends at Riffe's in Narrows on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. A masonic memorial service will be held in the funeral chapel by the Intermont Lodge #269 A.F. and A.M., at 7 p.m. Thursday evening. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Narrows Fire Department.

MEADOWS, Healen Lorine, 79, of Pembroke, Va. died in Giles Memorial Hospital at Pearisburg, Va. Tuesday mroning December 13, 1994, following a long illness. Born in Montgomery Co., Va., she was a daughter of the late Gilbert B. Sr. and Josie Garten Price. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Meadows. Surviving are five daughters, Joann M. Aistrop of Pembroke, Alice M. Hilton of Salem, Martha M. Merix of Ripplemead, Nancy M. Stone of Pearisburg, and Linda M. Myers of Pearisburg; one brother, Russell Price of Christiansubrg; one sister, Edna Sperry of Arlington, Va. and three half brothers, Gary R. Price of Pearisburg, Gilbert B. Price, Jr. of Stuart, Va. and Frank W. Price of Radford, Va.; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 16, 1994, in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, Va. at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Birchlawn Park in Pearisburg, Va.
