RADFORD COMES BACK TO DROP FORT CHISWELL

Radford overcame a 15-point second-half deficit to earn a 64-51 non-district victory over Fort Chiswell on Wednesday in boys' basketball.

Radford (1-2) outscored the Pioneers 40-17 in the second half behind 15 points from Matt Linkous and 11 each from John Kinser, Chuck Hubbard and D.J. Jones.

Fort Chiswell (1-2) led by 15 points with five minutes left in the third quarter, but could not hold off the Bobcats.

Kenneth Stoots led the Pioneers with 16 points and Jody Burnett added 12.

Shawsville 55

SHAWSVILLE - Tito Crockett had 22 points, and the Maroon Tide pulled away in the third quarter for a non-district victory over the Shawnees.

Galax (3-0) extended a 12-point lead by scoring the first 10 points of the third quarter. Rodney Sawyer added 16 points for the Maroon Tide.

Shawsville (0-4) got 13 points from Cory Dow.

Tuesday's game

Mercer Christian 84, Gateway Christian 39: In Mercer, W.Va., Matthew Miller scored a game-high 29 points to help Mercer Christian blast the Crusaders in a non-district matchup.

Miller had 13 in the second quarter as Mercer (1-0) outscored Gateway 21-7 to take a 45-15 lead.

Mercer got 17 points from Joel Young and 16 from Phillip Hazelwood.

Gateway (3-3), which had only six players in uniform, was led by Jay Perfater, who scored 12 points. Aaron Meadows chipped in 10.
