GENERAL MILLS TO SPIN OFF ITS RESTAURANTS

General Mills Inc. said it will spin off its restaurants and creating two public corporations to manage separate consumer foods and restaurants businesses.

The foods company, built around its Betty Crocker and Big G brands, will continue to be called General Mills and based in Golden Valley, Minn., as a food company with about $5.5 billion in annual sales.

Restaurants, however, will be given a new name and is likely to transfer top executives to Orlando, Fla., where restaurant operations are now based. Built around Red Lobster, Olive Garden and China Coast restaurants, this unit will have about $3.2 billion in annual sales.
