MARTINSVILLE, MARTIN RALLY FROM 18-POINT DEFICIT

Mike Martin scored on a short running jumper with four seconds remaining to cap Martinsville's 68-66 comeback win over Laurel Park in a battle of unbeaten Piedmont District high school basketball teams Friday night.

Martinsville (5-0, 5-0) trailed by 18 points early in the third quarter before storming back behind Martin, who scored 19 of his game-high 31 points in the second half.

The Bulldogs led 66-64 before Laurel Park's Ronta Davis tied it with 30 seconds left. After Martin drove the lane and banked in his winning shot, the Lancers (5-1, 5-1) called timeout, but could only manage a shot from half-court at the buzzer.

Laurel Park, which led 42-28 at halftime after outscoring the Bulldogs 29-16 in the second period, watched its lead evaporate in the fourth quarter, when the Lancers were outscored 21-10.

Eric Jones made a pair of 3-pointers and Darrell Wilson scored eight points in second quarter to fuel Laurel Park's run.

Warrick Scott and Girard Foster each scored 17 points for the Lancers. Davis and Wilson finished with 10.

WYTHEVILLE - The Maroons made 15-of-18 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to turn back Castlewood in a Hogoheegee District game.

George Wythe (3-0, 3-0) outscored Castlewood 35-21 in the final period.

Wythe center Aaron Andrews had a huge game. He was 13-of-18 from the field on his way to 33 points, and he grabbed 10 rebounds.

Jason Monk scored 21 for Castlewood.

Nat Law scored 20 points and Brian Alley had 19 to pace Fieldale-Collinsville (4-1, 4-1).

BASSETT - Tyree Hairston had 26 points and eight rebounds to lead the Bengals to a Piedmont District victory over the Warriors.

Bassett (3-3, 3-2) turned a two-point halftime lead into a comfortable margin by outscoring Magna Vista 22-12 in the third quarter.

The Warriors went cold in the third quarter, making only six of 16 shots while Bassett made three 3-point goals to surge ahead.

Chris Hairston added 16 points for the Bengals.

Magna Vista got 14 points from Jermaine Simmons and 12 from Leroy Valentine.

Jon Reed had 22 points for Auburn (3-1) to lead all scorers. David Lambert scored 20 for Bland.

ROCKY GAP - Will Dodson scored a game-high 27 points, including five 3-pointers, as the Eagles rolled to a non-district victory.

Nathan Blessing came off the bench to add 19 points and eight rebounds for Rock Gap (2-1). Dodson scored 14 of his points in the fourth quarter and grabbed nine rebounds. The Eagles made 20 of 33 field-goal attempts in the second half.
