ARRINGTON, Christine Newman, 86, of Botetourt Co. died Thursday, December 15, 1994, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was a former employee of Shenandoah Life Insurance Co. and an noted musician and teacher in Botetourt. She was a member of the Botetourt Chapter #135 Order of the Eastern Star, United Daughters of the Confederacy and the St. Mark's United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, former Sheriff of Botetourt, Joseph M. Arrington Sr. and by one son, Thomas Edward Arrington. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lee and W illiam G. Loope of Botetourt Co.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph M. Jr., and Sue Arrington of Botetourt Co., William Harold and Suzanne Arrington of Dalzelle, S.C., Charles Michael and Janis Arrington of Chesapeake; one brother and sister-in-law, Chester and Mary Sue Newman, Bedford; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Snider, Cloverdale; another sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Johnson, Bedford; also surviving are 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 19, 1994, 2 p.m., at the Rader Troutville Chapel, with Dr. Gene M. Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 18, 1994, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rader Funeral Home, Troutville.

BARNETT, Larry Richard, 37, of Riner, died Friday, December 16, 1994, from injuries received in a auto accident. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Barnett; one son, Daniel Barnett; one daughter, Amanda Barnett, all of the home; his mother, Bertha Bowers, Riner; two brothers, Charles Barnett, David Barnett, both of Christiansburg; three sisters, Dorothy Lawson, Joyce Linkous, both of Christiansburg, Shirley Duncan, Riner. A memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 19, 1994, at the Grace Assembly Church of God, conducted by Rev. Robert Goldstein. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday morning at the church, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to your local Rescue Squad or the American Heart Association. Arrangements are being handled by Richardson-Horne Funeral Home

DEWBERRY, Martha Katherine Saferight, 69, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, December 16, 1994, at her residence. She was the widow of Lee Roy Dewberry Sr. Survivors include one son, Lee Roy Dewberry Jr. of the home; one daughter, Peggy Lou Dewberry, Cummings, Ga.; her mother, Lugie Spraker Saferight, Roanoke; one sister, Ruth S. Wheeler, Roanoke; one brother, Robert Grant Saferight, Vinton; three grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, December 19, 1994, from the Mountain View Cemetery. GROGAN, Ernest Junior, 67, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 15, 1994. He was a veteran of the Navy and Marines, and retired from the V.A. Medical Center. Ernest was a F and AAA York Rite Mason of Rising Sun Lodge #146 and a member of Sahara Temple #1 of Roanoke. Survivors include his wife, Mary C. Grogan, Roanoke; four sons, Larry Coles, Donald Coles, Roanoke, Ernest (Shermaine) Grogan, Salem, and Ricky Grogan, Roanoke; five daughters, Diane (Omar) Rabb, Mary Grogan, Linda (``Steve'') Brown, Peggy Grogan, and Brenda Grogan, all of Roanoke; one brother, Ed Grogan, Buchanan; four sisters, Hazel Grogan, Clara Grogan, Ethel Hayden, all of Roanoke, and Ruby Swain, New York; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday 2 p.m. at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. The Rev. J. R. Hughes will officiate with interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

HALE, Benjamin Amos, 67, of Roanoke, died Friday, December 16, 1994. Graveside services 10 a.m. Monday, Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Lotz Roanoke Chapel.

JACKSON, Thomas David, 72, of 745 South Street, Bedford, died Friday, December 16, 1994, at Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Melva Bonds Jackson. Mr. Jackson was born in Bedford, November 28, 1922, a son of the late John Ed Jackson and Martha Ann Dickerson Jackson. He was a member of Washington Street Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of World War II. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Gloria Jones of Roanoke; and a host of other relatives. A service will be conducted Monday, 11 a.m. at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. H. A. Henderson. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bedford Rescue Squad or the charity of your choice.

MOWLES, B. Frank Jr., of Roanoke, died Saturday, December 17, 1994 in a local hospital. He was a retired brickmason and a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church. Surviving are his wife, Rachel R. Mowles; a daughter and son-in-law, Bettina and Joseph M. Sanchez, Richmond; a granddaughter, Jessica Sanchez; a brother, Carl Mowles, Charlotte, N.C.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Beverly J. and Irene Rhodes, Roanoke; brother-in-law, W. J. Oakey, Salem; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted in the chapel of Christ Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Deborah Hentz Hunley officiating. Inurnment will be in the church Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 1101 Franklin Road S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24016.
