PULASKI GIRLS WIN THEIR TOURNAMENT

DUBLIN - Carrie McConnell hit eight of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter and scored a game-high 20 points as the Cougars (4-0) defeated St.Mary's (3-4) to win the Pulaski County Invitational tournament.

Pulaski County (4-0) trailed by two at halftime, but took a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter after Jodie Hallett scored eight of her 14 points in a 20-point third period. Hallett had 12 of her 14 in the second half.

St.Mary's (3-4) came back in the fourth quarter as Tara Foran scored seven of her 19 points. Jen Manning added all seven of her points in the final period for the visitors.

McConnell, though, hit the free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory. Kim Cruise added 15 points for the Cougars.

DUBLIN - Emily Rappold scored six of her 10 points in the first quarter to spark the Knights to the early lead and they went on to a victory over the Cavaliers in the first game of the Pulaski County Invitational doubleheader.

Jaclyn Banks scored 15 points and added 12 rebounds, Aimee Beightol scored 14 points to go with 12 assists and her twin sister, Allison, added eight assists and six points for Cave Spring (2-2).

Albemarle's Kelly McCandlish, a 6-foot-2 forward, scored 17 points.

DUBLIN - Eric Webb scored 19 of his game-high 25 points in the first half as the Cougars opened a 16-point lead and never looked back en route to a victory over the Pioneers in a non-district game.

Webb, Timesland's defensive player of the year in football, made nine of 19 field-goal attempts and grabbed 16 rebounds. Tyrone Hash chipped in 24 points for Pulaski County (2-0) - 16 in the second half - on 10-of-14 field-goal shooting.

Calvin Thompson scored 10 of his team-high 17 points in the third quarter as Heritage cut the Cougars' lead to nine, but they could get no closer.

James Stokes, Keith Hampton and Derrick Hines combined for 64 points to lead the Colonels past the Cavaliers in a non-district game.

Stokes scored 23 points and had 21 rebounds, Hampton scored 21 points and made three 3-pointers and Hines had 20 points and nine assists to pace Fleming (5-1)

Albemarle (4-3) trailed by 10 points with less than three minutes to play before scratching back to cut its deficit to three. Jamel Ross led the Cavaliers with 18 points.
