TRIPPING THE LIGHTS FANATASTIC.

There was a time when going out to see the Christmas lights meant a nighttime stroll along downtown streets, ooohing and aaahing at the displays hanging from lampposts and spread behind show windows.

Now, the really elaborate displays - the ones that take your breath away, or maybe make you gag - are more likely to be on a side street at the edge of town in front of somebody's home.
