THOUGHTS ON WELFARE

Linda's views on Gov. George Allen's welfare reform plan:

``The governor has no concept of reality. I'd be forced to discontinue my education and be right back at the same point I started out - making minimum wage and not being paid what I'm worth.''

``It's not even addressing issues that need to be addressed. If you're going to cut someone off, you've got to provide them some alternatives for equipping these people to work, to be marketable out here. And they're not doing it.''

``They need to tighten the system as well as come down on people who are abusing the system.''

``If they're going to take these mothers off the system, and there are mothers who don't want to work and want to watch kids, open up some of these recreation centers and churches and certify these mothers for child care. That'll put them to work at something. And it lets those of us who want to go to school get ourselves on our feet so we can be marketable.''

``What I see [in the Allen plan] is not an incentive for anything.''
