Many people of African descent in the United States celebrate Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa is a Swahili word meaning "first" and signifying the first fruits of harvest. It is celebrated Dec. 26-Jan. 1.
The Harrison Museum of African American Culture in Roanoke will hold a Kwanzaa celebration on Dec. 29, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
The celebration will include music and family activities. Participants are encouraged to dress in African clothing of red, black and green. A Kwanzaa guide will be given to each family to encourage the continuation of the celebration at home.
The museum is located at 523 Harrison Ave., N.W., Roanoke. The store and gift shop have Kwanzaa gift ideas, kits and books.
NewsFun will take a break for the holidays. We'll be back on Jan. 9. Have a safe and delightful holiday season.
