K.J. Hippensteel of Roanoke dropped two matches Sunday in the boys' 14 division at the Junior Orange Bowl tennis tournament in Coral Springs, Fla.
In the second round, Hippensteel lost to the tournament's top seed 6-1, 6-1. In the consolation round, he fell 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 to rival David Martin.
Steve Pannell floored Tim St.Clair in the first round and went on to win a 10-round unanimous decision Sunday night in a matchup of Roanoke cruiserweight boxers in Raleigh, N.C.
With the victory, Pannell (18-2) earned a date with World Boxing Federation champion Danny King in Boise, Idaho, in late February. That bout is scheduled to air on CBS-TV. St.Clair is 24-14.
