THOUGHTS ON WELFARE

Parvin Hosseini's views on Gov. George Allen's welfare reform plan:

``To change people to the life we think is right for them takes a little bit of time. It takes time to adjust to a lifestyle of studying, sitting in class, getting an education or job training.''

``The only way to really do this is give people some peace of mind while they are in training. Pay them more benefits while they are in school - $100 more for one class; $200 more for two - so they aren't worrying if there is food on the table or if the bills are paid or if the children have clothes.''

``The system is very complicated. On some things, the taxpayers are right. But we are too. Some people [on welfare] don't want to do anything. But many people don't want to live like they are. They just don't know how to get out.''

``Right now [the Allen plan] is asking the impossible.''
