BROOKS, James Wilson, 78, of Glade Hill, died Sunday, December 18, 1994, after a lengthy illness at the V A Medical Center, Salem, Va. Born November 9, 1916, he was the son of the late Elder Joseph A. and Jimmie David Brooks. He was the husband of the late Ernestine J. Brooks. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Claude Forbes, Salem; six sisters, Effie Holland, Glade Hill, Mattie Cundiff, Rocky Mount, Doris Ferguson, Union Hall, Ruth Minter, Martinsville, Dorothy Sink, Redwood, Cecil Brown, Collinsville; one brother, Glen Brooks, Pensacola, Fla.; one grandson, Scott Forbes, Salem; also, several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 21,1994, at Franklin Memorial Park, Rocky Mount, with the Rev. David Minter officiating. CHENAULT, Myrtle Cochran 93, of Roanoke, died Sunday, December 18, 1994. She was a member of Saint Andrews Catholic Church and was the switchboard operator for a number of years at the Patrick Henry Hotel and retired as the switchboard operator at Hotel Roanoke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin T. Chenault; daughter, Frances C. Johnson; granddaughter, Linda Nunley. Surviving are three daughters and a son-in-law, Mildred C. Nunley, Roanoke, Mary Jayne Chenault, Roanoke, Patricia C. and Melvin W. (""Sonny"") Scott, Vinton; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn C. Mitchell, Evington, Elizabeth C. Ferrara, Tenn. Funeral services will be conducted from Saint Andrews Catholic Church, 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 1994, with the Rev. Peter Tran officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. A prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. CHENAULT, Myrtle Cochran 93, of Roanoke, died Sunday, December 18, 1994. Funeral services will be conducted from Saint Andrews Catholic Church at 11:15 a.m., Wednesday, with burial to follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel.

DALTON, David E., (``Billy""), 78, of Rt. 3, Hurt, died Monday, December 19, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Lottie Gibson Dalton, of the residence; two sons, Haywood K. Dalton, Moneta, and Gerald Ray Dalton, Gretna; one daughter, Fay Ola Talbott, Hurt; one sister, Mrs. Ada Keatts, Gretna; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Weatherford Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Raymond Goad and Elder Marvin Brumfield. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. DAVES, Hazel Williams, 87, of Pearisburg, died Monday, December 19,1994. Mrs. Daves was a member of the Pearisburg Baptist Church and was a retired employee of the B & B Stores. She was born in Pearisburg on Marcy 1, 1907 and was a daughter of the late George W. and Harriet Frazier Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richmond (Pop) Daves; eight brothers and one sister. She is survived by two stepsons, Guy Daves, Decatur, Ga., Millard Daves of Michigan; two brothers, Ferrell L. (Snag) Williams Sr., Pearisburg, Waldo E. Williams, Pearisburg; two sisters, Ann W. Hodge, Hampton, Margaret W. Hale, Vinton; and several nieces and nephews. HAIRSTON, William Daniel, 68, of Roanoke, passed into eternal rest on Sunday, December 18, 1994, at the V.A. Hospital in Salem. A veteran of World War II, he has been a patient at the V.A. for many years. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Vada Natal, Yonkers, N.Y.; a stepmother, Mrs. Peggy Hairston, Martinsville; brothers, Mr. Gill Hariston and Decafa Hariston, Martinsville; many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. HOLT, Joel Fletcher, 79, of Rt. 1, Callaway, died Sunday, December 18, 1994, at his home. Mr. Holt was a retired farmer, a veteran of World War II, and a 35-year member of the American Legion. HOWELL, Esters Howard, 70, of Roanoke, formelry of Youngstown, Ohio passed away Sunday, November 18, 1994. Survivors include two sons, Marvin and Melvin Howell; one daughter, Marsell Ballard all of Youngstown, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers; two sisters; a host of other relatives and friends. JACKSON, Elsie G., 89, of Roanoke, died Sunday, December 18, 1994, in a local nursing home. She was the widow of William H. Jackson Sr. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, William H. and Ann W. Jackson, Roanoke; grandchildren and their spouses, William L. and Sally Jackson, Carlsbad, N.M., R. Vaughan and Pamela Jackson, Carlsbad, Calif.; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Caitlin, Patrick, and Gregory. JACKSON, Mary Agnes Akers, of Kingstown, Roanoke Co., passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, December 18, 1994, at Community Hospital. She was born March 11, 1914, in Floyd, to the late Wendell and Octavia Akers. She was the widow of John Albert Jackson. She is survived by three sons, John W. (Phyllis) Jackson, Wynnewood, Pa.--two children, Beth and Steve, James R. (Frances) Jackson--four children, James II (Kim), Robert (Leslie), Carol and Sandra, Theodore A. (Curly & Gloria) Jackson--three children, T.J., Sherry and Kevin; two daughters, Agatha J. (Cornell) Stockton, Martinsville--three children, Katrina, Jackie and Christopher, Katie J. (Bill) Jernigan, Roanoke--three children, Becky, Kay and Faye (Rodney); deceased daughter, Connie--two children, Sonya and Gail; one devoted adopted son, Calvin Coleman, Roanoke; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Amelia A. Spencer, Floyd; one brother, Owen (Helen) Akers, Niagara Falls, N.Y.; one aunt, Virginia H. JOHNSON, Eunice Mitchell, 84, of Route 4, Bedford, died Monday, December 19, 1994, in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born in Bedford County on July 24, 1910, a daughter of the late John Edgar Mitchell and Ellie McGhee Mitchell. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo Mortimer Johnson and a brother, F. S. Mitchell. She was a member of Ephesus United Methodist Church. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William Waldo Johnson and Dorothy M. Johnson, Bedford; one brother, William Mitchell, Lynchburg; two grandsons, Waldo David Johnson and William Leonard Johnson, both of Bedford; two granddaughters, Sharon Rena Johnson, Windsor, Elizabeth Ann Johnson, Bedford; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. SMITH, Pauline, 65, of Salem, passed away Sunday, December 18, 1994, in her home. She was retired from Home Shopping Network of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel J. Smith. STANLEY, Ouida Ayres, 81, of Bedford, passed away Sunday, December 18, 1994, in The Oaks-Richfield Retirement Center, Salem. She was born September 17, 1913, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late John Addison Ayres and Kylie Ward Morris Ayres. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Jasper Lewis Stanley; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Jim Davis, Falls Church; two granddaughters, Danielle LaCharite, Tysons Corner, Sarah Miller, Waynesboro; a great-granddaughter, Kylie Miller, Waynesboro. SWINK, Lillian Donald, 87, of Lexington, died Sunday, December 18, 1994, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Emma D. Moore. Mrs. Swink was born March 17, 1907, in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late William Henry Donald and Grace Virginia Dixon Donald. She was a retired bookkeeper with the Stonewall Jackson Hospital, a past member of the Lioness Club of Lexington, along with other numerous organizations in the community. She was the widow of Alton Dennie Swink. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Clelia D. Agnor, Mrs. Emma D. Moore and Mrs. Dorothy D. Moore, all of Lexington. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 1994, at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lee Zehmer officiating. Burial will follow in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. THOMASON, Rachel Taylor, 93, of Roanoke, died Monday, December 19, 1994. She was the widow of Oscar W. Thomason. She was a member of the First Baptist Church were she was a member of the Bible Book Sunday School Class. She was a self-employed Seamstress in the Roanoke Valley for many years and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Railway Trainmen. Surviving are her son-in-law, Jack C. Summers Jr., Roanoke; one great-grandson and wife, Daniel and Shelia Templeton, Reidsville, N.C.; one great-granddaughter and husband, Anne Marie and Jeff Almashy, Danville; three great-great grandchildren, Justin, Jessica, and Julie Templeton; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. John D. Cochran officiating. Burial will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. TRINKLE, Clarence Moore, Jr., 86, of Richmond, Va. died Friday, December 16, 1994. He had suffered a stroke in October. Mr. Trinkle was a life long resident of Virginia, having been born in Wytheville, but living a significant amounts of time in Roanoke, Richmond and Alexandria. He was a retired executive of the four C & P Telephone Companies, having been with the Companies for 43 years when he retired in 1970. Mr. Trinkle was also the nephew of the late E. Lee Trinkle, a former Governor of Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bertha B. Trinkle; a daughter, Nancy T. O'Shea of Richmond and Fairfax; a son, Rev. Clarence M. Trinkle III of Holy Spirit Parish, Annandale; a sister, Mary Page Palmer of Alexan dria; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 1994. Prayer service 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 1994, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. VITALE, Joseph John, 80, of Hampton, died Saturday, December 17, 1994. He was born in New York City, N.Y. and has been a Hampton resident for the last 31 years. Mr. Vitale was the former owner and operator of the Phoebus Barber Shop from which he retired in 1979 after 16 years. He was an Army veteran of WWII having served in Panama and Europe. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council #511. Mr. Vitale is survived by his wife, Helen G. Vitale; his daughters, Jeanne V. Blair, St. Stephens, Ala., Gloria V. LoMonaco, C hesapeake, Angela Vitale and Maria V. Page, both of Hampton; his brother, Salvatore Vitale of Spring Hill, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. A Christian Wake service will be conducted 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home Chapel, after which the family will receive friends until 8 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday in the St. Joseph Catholic Church by the Revs. Nicholas Helldorfer, Edward J. Gray, and Frances J. Sands, CS&R's. Burial will be in the Hampton-Veteran's Memorial Gardens. VOIT, John Haven, 84, of Roanoke, died Sunday, December 18, 1994. Mr. Voit was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cuzette Moore Voit, in 1989. Survived by a son, John Steven Voit, Roanoke; one brother, Ashby Voit, Hollywood, Fla.; two sisters, Bess McCraw, Durham, N.C., Claudine Cox, Roanoke.
