PULASKI TOWN COUNCIL PLANS 3 PUBLIC HEARINGS TONIGHT|

Pulaski Town Council will hold three public hearings at its meeting at 7 tonight, including one for a conditional use permit to operate an arcade room and video machines at the former Jefferson Elementary School building.

The building, which has held various agencies and offices since it stopped being used as a school several years ago, is in a B-2 business zone at 85 First St. S.W.

One of the agencies is the Straight Street Center for young people under the age of 18.

The youth center is located in a 75-by-63-foot multi-purpose room. The request from Straight Street and Pulaski County is for conditional-use permission to operate two pool tables and up to 10 video and pinball games on Fridays, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturdays, 2 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The facility now includes basketball, volleyball and occasional live music among its activities, all of which are supervised by adults.

Another item scheduled for a hearing is a request by W. Pat Kirkland, representing Bill and Joan Raykes, to amend the town zoning regulations to allow sales of cars and trucks manufactured elsewhere in M-1 zones.

The Raykes originally sought a change from M-1 to B-2 to allow a vehicle sales or used car lot, and have now amended their application to change the M-1 restrictions. The property they want to use is a two-acre tract on Bob White Boulevard.

The third hearing is a request from Roger Clark and Gordon Hodges to close an undeveloped right-of-way between Floyd Lane and Allison Lane.
