ALLEN'S CUTS

Highlights of Gov. Allen's amendments to the state's two-year, $32 billion budget:

Eliminate 1,100 state jobs, a savings of $28 million.

An additional $92.4 million for prison operations.

A $175 million bond issue for immediate prison construction needs, followed by a $227 million prison-building bond issue to be voted on in a November 1995 referendum.

An additional $22.3 million for economic development programs.

A 2.25 percent pay raise for state employees, along with one-time performance bonuses of up to 4.5 percent.

An $8.7 million cut in low-priority housing programs.

A $13.2 million cut in public school grants.

Cuts totalling $5.6 million for six colleges that failed to submit acceptable restructuring plans on time.

A $4.9 million cut in low-priority agricultural and forestry research at Virginia Tech.

Elimination of a new College of Global Studies at Radford University, a savings of $2 million.
