GRAYSON RALLIES PAST BUFFALOES

Bryan Boyer's double-double was significant Tuesday night as Grayson County came from behind for a 63-57 non-district boys' basketball victory over Floyd County.

Boyer scored 14 points to go with 13 rebounds as Grayson (4-0 overall) came back from a 14-6 deficit early in the second period to lead 25-23 at halftime. Grayson built a 10-point fourth-quarter lead then hung on while missing the front end of four one-and-one free-throw opportunities in the final minute.

Chad Shaffner led the Blue Devils with 15 points, while Russ Lambert also added 14 points. The visiting Buffaloes (3-1 overall) were led by Brian Harmon's 14 points.

Blacksburg 83

Lord Botetourt 76

BLACKSBURG - Lord Botetourt's Ryan Salvi hit a fallaway jumper at the buzzer to send the game to overtime, but the Cavaliers couldn't hang on, falling to the Indians in a non-district game.

Greg Shockley and Aaron Marshall hit consecutive 3-pointers for Blacksburg (3-2) to open the overtime period and the Indians converted on 13 of 18 free-throw attempts to pull away.

Shockley finished with 13 for the Indians, who had five players in double figures. Mark Hobeika had 16 points, Philip Klaus 14, Trent Peterson 12 and Tony Wheeler 11.

Shannon Williams paced Lord Botetourt (4-2) with 22 points and Salvi and Jonathan Neal added 19 points each.

Bland 57

Giles 48

BLAND - The Rockets picked up the defensive intensity in the second half to rally from an 18-point deficit for a non-district victory over the Spartans.

Shannon Havens led Bland (1-1) with 20 points and David Lambert added 12.

Anthony Myers scored 13 points and Josh Stephens and Adam Jones added 10 each for Giles (2-2).

Auburn 84

Fort Chiswell 63

RINER - Jon Reed scored a career-high 32 points to lead the Eagles past the Pioneers in a non-district game.

Reed scored 23 points in the second half as Auburn (5-1) outscored Fort Chiswell 49-34 in the second half to break the game open. Reed also had four steals and six assists.

Terry Millirons added 18 points - 13 in the first half - and six rebounds for the Eagles.

Jody Burnett led Fort Chiswell with 18 points and Gary Arnold added 13.

Pulaski County 65

Abingdon 49

ABINGDON - Ty Hash scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Cougars took advantage of a huge rebounding difference to blow past the Falcons in a non-district game.

Pulaski County (3-0) outrebounded Abingdon 49-28. Jon Lilly scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Cougars; Eric Webb added 15 points.

Hash scored 11 of his 19 in the third quarter as the Cougars outscored the Falcons 21-8 to take control of the game.

Abingdon (4-1) was led by Tyrone Johnson, who scored 16 points, and Joe Waters with 14.

Narrows 73

Pocahontas 52

POCAHONTAS - Bryan Pruett scored 22 points to pace four Narrows players in double figures as the Green Wave rolled to a non-district win over Pocahontas.

Pruett and Scott Vaught did the damage inside as Narrows (3-2) shot over 50 percent for the game. Vaught scored 10 of his 18 in the first quarter as Narrows opened up a nine-point lead.

Pruett scored 14 of his 20 in the second half as Pocahontas (0-4) cut the lead to 10 in the third quarter, but could get no closer. Chad Scarberry brought the Indians back in the game by scoring 12 of his team-high 18 in the third quarter.

Patrick Bailey chipped in 13 for Narrows and teammate Greg Robertson added 11.

Highland 70

NEW CASTLE - Craig County held off Highland's 36-point fourth quarter flurry as the Rockets squeaked by the Rams 73-70 in a Pioneer District game.

Jamie Fisher led Craig County (2-2, 1-0) with 29 points, including eight 3-pointers. Robby Huffman also helped the Rockets with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Highland (0-2, 0-1) was led by Brian Weiner's 19 points and T.J. Honaker's 17, which included three 3-pointers. Jacob Hull added 16 points for the Rams.

Liberty 76

Jefferson Forest 42

FOREST - The Minutemen jumped out to a 25-6 first quarter lead and never look back, rolling past Jefferson Forest in a Seminole District game.

J.J. Coles and Gregg Reynolds paced a Liberty (5-1) press which forced numerous turnovers. Coles finished with a team-high 12 points, Reynolds added nine and Robert Carson chipped in 10.

Jefferson Forest (1-4) got 11 points from Jimmy Gillespie and 10 from Ryan Lowe.

Staunton River 65

Rustburg 54

RUSTBURG - Hunter Hoggatt scored 21 points as the Golden Eagles defeated the Devils in Seminole District game.

Cornelius Foxx added 17 points and Jeff English tossed in 14 for the Staunton River.

Bryan Franklin led Rustburg with 16 points and Tyrone Scott scored 14.

SHAWSVILLE - Will Dodson scored 11 of his 16 points in the second quarter as the Eagles pulled away for a Mountain Empire District road victory.

It was Shawsville's 43rd consecutive loss. The Shawnees, led by Jeremy Nichols' 11 points, fell behind 38-20 by halftime.

Dodson, who had four 3-point goals, and Eric Faulkner shared game-high scoring honors with 16 apiece for Rocky Gap.

DUBLIN - The Cougars outscored the Eagles 24-8 in the third quarter en route to a Roanoke Valley District victory.

Jodie Hallett scored 21 points for Pulaski County (5-0, 2-0), Kim Cruise added 13 points and Lisa Skeens and Carrie McConnell each scored 10.

Sarah Jones led Franklin County (4-2, 2-1) with 11 points, including two three-pointers.
