COUNCIL AGAIN SUPPORTS BYPASS AND EXTENSION

Town Council members went on the record again Tuesday in support of the proposed U.S. 460 bypass and bypass extension, saying they "fully support" the plans.

Council unanimously passed a resolution in favor of the roads after reviewing plans for them two weeks ago at a public information meeting sponsored by the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The resolution holds that the roads are a "high priority" for the town and that "the traffic volume and congestion on the existing U.S. 460 continue to increase at an alarming rate."

Also Tuesday, council learned that a handful of American cable company subscribers will be getting small refunds because of new Federal Communcations Commission regulations.

About two dozen people were charged $3 -$4 too much for cable installation and another 64 were overbilled $1.50 since Aug. 1, Irving Stauss of American Cable Entertainment said.

Subscribers who rent equipment such as converter boxes and remote controls have been billed 2 cents per month too much. They'll get refunds, too.
