WILLIAM FLEMING PULLS AWAY FOR 69-62 WIN OVER HERITAGE

William Fleming's Derrick Hines gave effective demonstration Wednesday night at Heritage that he can not only play basketball, but also think it.

Playing their fourth game in six nights, the Colonels were being frustrated by the Pioneers' use of screens until Hines suggested a man-to-man trap to pull them out of it. The ploy worked and the Colonels (7-1) eased ahead for good in the final two minutes of 69-62 non-district victory in Lynchburg.

Hines made all seven of his free throws on the way to scoring 13 points to go with six assists. The Colonels made 11 of 12 foul shots, going 6-for-6 in the fourth quarter. Keath Hampton went 5-for-8 from 3-point range, giving him nine triples in consecutive games. He finished with 23 points. James Stokes had a game-high 26 points.

John Taylor scored 17 for Heritage.
