CRAIG KEEPS 3 VOTING DISTRICTS

The Craig County Board of Supervisors, by a split vote, has decided not to create two new magisterial districts in order to assure equal representation among districts on an elected School Board.

Supervisors Chairman Zane Jones voted against staying with three districts. John Lee and Donald Caldwell voted to keep the status quo. This means Craig will continue with its existing magisterial districts - New Castle, Alleghany and Simmonsville.

The supervisors asked County Attorney James Cornwell to take the necessary legal steps to ensure that the elected School Board will have one member from each district and two at-large members. Beginning next November, Craig County voters will elect School Board members, who previously were appointed by the supervisors.
