The electric utility needed the commission's approval for the 6.5-mile, 138-kilovolt power line because almost six miles of it will run through areas serviced by the Mecklenberg and Southside electrical cooperatives.
Most of the power line will run over undeveloped land that Apco owns in Pittsylvania County. The route crosses private land in Pittsylvania, Franklin and Bedford counties.
Two families in the Penhook area of Franklin County, where the new power station will be built, complained about the line's possible environmental impact, but the SCC said their concerns about the low-voltage line were unfounded.
