SUPPORTIVE SON HONORED THROUGH GIFT

Jewel Arrington and her son, David, watched the City Rescue Mission carry away the last bundle of her late husband's clothes. Since his death in 1993, they had not been emotionally ready to donate the items. But on Tuesday, with her son's support, Arrington made the last trip to the mission.

After leaving the mission, the two drove to a remote part of town overlooking a peaceful lake, hoping that the serenity of the area would ease their pain. Though he felt the loss of his father greatly, David put aside his tears for his mother's sake and comforted her through his silence. His unspoken understanding gave her the encouragement she needed to brighten her sorrow.

Arrington wanted to honor her son's support through a contribution to the Good Neighbors Fund. She wrote in a letter she enclosed with her donation, "I have previously made a contribution to this fund in my husband's memory, but this one is made as a tribute to a son who understood."
