RURAL RETREAT SEEKS CHANGE IN BOUNDARY

A second town in Southwest Virginia is negotiating a voluntary boundary adjustment with its surrounding county.

Rural Retreat Town Council and the Wythe County Board of Supervisors have opened talks on a proposed boundary adjustment, which would add 1.2 square miles and 163 county residents to the town.

George Nester of Vinton, of Consultants to Government and Business, prepared a feasibility study on the proposed adjustment. He told both governing bodies Wednesday night that an agreement between them would be far less costly than an annexation proceeding decided by the Virginia Commission on Local Government.

On Monday night, the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors and Dublin Town Council approved an agreement extending the town's boundaries by more than 300 acres. The agreement will become effective when it is accepted by a circuit judge.

The bulk of the land being added to Dublin lies in an industrial park that already belongs to the town.
