CELEBRATIONS - WEDDINGS

Fearnley-Sears

Thanksgiving Day, 1994, was the wedding day of Edie Seldon Sears of Shawsville, Virginia, and Dr. Stephen Philip Fearnley of Bolton, Lancashire, England. Edie is the daughter of Edward Seldon and Rebecca Anderson Sears, and the granddaughter of Mrs. Lula Anderson and the late Robert B. Anderson of Shawsville, and Thelma and Glen Brown of Somerset, Kentucky. Stephen is the son of Marlene and Philip Fearnley, and the grandson of Mr. William Fearnley, the late Mrs. Jane Fearnley, and the late Samuel and Lucy Pollard, all of Bolton. The wedding took place at the bride's home in Shawsville. The marriage ceremony was performed by Elder Noel F. Conner, pastor of County Line Primitive Baptist Church, and great-uncle of the bride. Nancy Brown of Blacksburg, Virginia, and Tulane University, was maid of honor and arranged the flowers. Special music was presented by Vicki Pris Sears and Andee Sears, sisters of the bride. The bride's aunt, Mrs. Lou Lowder of Trenton, Florida, prepared the wedding cake and dinner. In addition to Mr. and Mrs. Fearnley, the groom's aunt Julia Townson, of Bolton, also made the wedding journey from England.

The bride's colors were ivory and burgundy. The bride wore an antique ivory lace gown, and her attendants wore burgundy velvet dresses. The flowers, cake, and decorations were ivory and burgundy.

Edie is a graduate of Shawsville High School and Okaloosa-Walton Community College in Niceville, Florida. Stephen is a graduate of Sheffield City Polytech and the University of Salford. After a trip to the Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Dr. and Mrs. Fearnley are temporarily at home in Blacksburg, where Edie is a December graduate of Virginia Tech's engineering school. Edie and Stephen will be moving to Penn State in late December where she will be pursuing a Master's Degree and Stephen will be doing post doctoral research in Chemical Engineering.

\ Maddox-Shorter

Stephanie Ann Shorter and Craig McDonald Maddox were married December 17, 1994, in Lee Chapel, Lexington, Va., with the Rev. John Lewis officiating. The reception was held at Moody Hall.

The matron of honor was Mrs. Donna McCullough, friend. The bridesmaids were Mrs. Laura Kindley, Mrs. Debbie Laux, Ms. Nina Stone, Mrs. Kari Foster, Ms. Sherri Stader, and Ms. Christine Turner.

The best man Was Mr. Johnnie Maddox, father of the groom. The ushers were Mr. Brandon Maddox, brother of the groom; Mr. Tony Shorter, brother of the bride; Mr. Todd Cleverger, Mr. Henry Ferguson, Mr. Mike Zirkle, and Mr. Steve Stadtherr. Ringbearer was Colby Shorter, nephew of the bride. The guestbook was attended by Mrs. Cyndi Shorter, sister-in-law of the bride.

The bride's gown was designed by the bride and her mother and made by her mother of Silk Peau-De Soie. She carried her mother's wedding bible adorned with white roses and ivy.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford W. Shorter of Lexington, Va. She is a graduate of James Madison University and the College of William and Mary School of Law. She is employed as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for the City of Lynchburg.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Maddox of Amherst, Va. He is a graduate of Emory and Henry College. He is employed as a business teacher and football and wrestling coach at Amherst County High School.

The newlyweds will live in Amherst, Va., after their wedding trip to St. Lucia.

Smith-Vess

Dawn Renee Vess and Dwayne Preston Smith were married December 24, 1994 in Fort Lewis Baptist Church. The officiating clergyman was Dr. J.W. Hatton. The reception was held at Holiday Inn-Salem.

The matron of honor was Lara Bingeman, cousin of the br ide. The bridesmaid was Kim Parenti, friend of the bride. The junior bridesmaid was Britney Smith, niece of the groom.

The best man was Oscar Smith, father of the groom. The groomsmen were Oscar Smith Jr., brother of the groom, and Craig Stines, nephew of the groom.

The candlelighter was Oscar Smith Jr. The guestbook was attended by Linda Shelton.

The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Vess of Salem. She is a graduate of Glenvar High School and National Business College with an Associates Degree. She is employed by Carilion Health System.

The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar W. Smith of Salem, is a graduate of Salem High School and is employed by the family business of Oscar W. Smith Mechanical Contractors.

The newlyweds will live in Salem.

\ Vollbrecht-Womack

NEW YORK - Kitty Womack and Robert Vollbrecht were united in marriage Saturday, September 17, 1994 at the Church of the Transfiguration (the Little Church Around the Corner) in Manhattan. Reverend Charles Temple officiated.|

A reception was held at the Rainbow Room in Rockefeller Center. Wedding Cake was served at the Palm Court in the Plaza Hotel.

Linda Womack of Roanoke, sister-in-law of the bride, served as matron of honor. Sean Connaughton of Triangle, Va. was best man.

The bride is the daughter of Ava C. Womack and the late Guy G. Womack of Roanoke, Va. She is a graduate of Roanoke College and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and is employed by Norfolk Southern.

The groom is the son of Elizabeth R. Vollbrecht and the late James H. Vollbrecht of Huntington Beach, Calif. He is a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and is employed by the Hampton Roads Maritime Training Center.

The couple resides in Norfolk.
