Akers anniversary

Lawrence and Ardine Akers celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, December 25, 1994 with a reception between 12 to 2:30 p.m. in the Social Hall at Antioch Church of the Brethren, Rocky Mount, Virginia, and regrets at their home from 4 to 5 p.m., hosted by their five children, Emilene Loomis, Edward Akers, Judi and Marvin Painter, John and Dana Akers and Bonnie Akers; and eight grandchildren, Shana and Eddie Akers, Zachary and Laura Painter, Maggie and Sarah Akers, Thomas Gardner and R.J. Allen.

\ Humphreys anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Anderson Humphreys of Villamont celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 22, 1994. They were married December 22, 1934 in Covington, Virginia by Minister M. W. Griffith.

Mr. Humphreys, formerly of Paint Bank, is a retired contract hauler and Mrs. Humphries is a housewife. Mrs. Humphreys is the former Gladys Meredith Stull, the daughter of the late Ralph and Cora S tull of Parrish Court in Covington.

The couple has four children: Robert Humphreys of Roanoke and Gilbert, Arizona; Sylvia Stubblefield of Richmond; Betty Giles of Vinton; and Linda Zimmerman of Bedford. They are the grandparents of 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The couple was honored with a family reception on Christmas Day and a family breakfast at the Peaks of Otter Lodge on December 26.

\ Mason anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. William Ashley Mason of Martinsville, previously of Floyd County, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married December 22, 1944 at the Central Church of the Brethren in Roanoke. The Rev. J. Clyde Forney officiated. Mrs. Mason is the former Gaynor Renva Alderman. The couple have a daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Wes Burnette and grandson, Matthew, of Roanoke.

\ Smith anniversary

Oscar W. Smith and Beulah T. Smith celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on December 24, 1994. They met on Halloween night and were married on Christmas Eve. Mrs. Smith is the former Beulah Gertrude Taylor. The couple have two daughters and two sons, Sandra Secrist of Christiansburg, Patr icia Stines of York, S.C., Oscar Smith Jr. of Roanoke and Dwayne Smith of Salem. They have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mr. Smith is owner of Oscar W. Smith Mechanical Contractors. Mrs. Smith is owner of Odessa Beauty Box. They are members of Fort Lewis Baptist Church, Lions Club, and Leisure Ladies Bowling League. Their 40th wedding anniversary was celebrated by their youngest son exchanging his vows on the same date and at the same age as his father, at the Fort Lewis Baptist Church. The reception was at the Salem Holiday Inn where family and friends wished both couples a full lifetime of happiness.
