ATKINS, Henry Lawson, 80, of Rt. 1, Union Hall, died Sunday, December 25, 1994, in a Roanoke hospital. He was a son of the late Alfonza F. and Vaughnie Smith Atkins; and was preceded in death by three brothers, George Atkins, Garland Atkins and Herman Atkins, and a baby sister. Surviving are his wife, Easter Mattox Atkins of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Douglas Smith, Glade Hill, Mary Lou and Tony Brooks, Union Hall; his grandchildren, Wesley and Tracy Whitlow, Mike Smith, Nicole, Neil, Megan, Leah, Justin, Alexx, Schylar and Marisa Brooks; four sisters, Vivian Poindexter, Penhook, Elizabeth Hundley, Martinsville, Barbara B rooks, Glade Hill, Flora Sue (Marie) Waesch, Dallas, Texas; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jennings and Nellie Atkins, Alfonza Atkins Jr., all of Martinsville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Flora Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Betty Daniels Marshall and Rev. J. D. Hunt III officiating. Interment will follow in the Mattox Family Cemetery. Those desiring to, may make memorials to the charity of choice. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the family receiving friends from 7 until 9 p.m at Flora Funeral Service, 342 South Main St., Rocky Mount.

AUTON, Frances C., 85, of Martinsville, went to be with the Lord, Friday, December 23, 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Auton. Mrs. Auton was born March 16, 1909 at Bryant, Nelson County, Va. She was the daughter of the late Thomas James and Lucy Maria (Ballard) Carter. She attended Blackstone College, Blackstone, Va. She was a longtime member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Auton is survived by two daughters, Sarah Hickox of Martinsville and Betty Burcham of Roanoke; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Jean Debnam, Aiken, S.C., Roberta Shortt of Alpine, Texas, Virginia Stratton of Roseland, Va., Hardeni a Lincoln and Burnley Harvey both of Arrington, Va. and a brother, T. J. Carter, Jr. of Lynchburg, Va. The service will be conducted Tuesday, December 27, 1994, 2 p.m. in the Chatham Heights Baptist church with Rev. Robert Bailey officiating. Interment in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Tomlinson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Sarah Hickox, 932 Stonewall Ct., Martinsville, Va. BAUER, Mary Elizabeth Boncyk, 58, of Roanoke, died quietly at her home Sunday, December 25, 1994, after a two year struggle with cancer. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was raised by her mother, Elizabeth Boncyk in Lafayette, Indiana. She was graduated by Holy Cross Central School of Nursing, South Bend, Indiana in 1957. She raised three sons and was a perennial team mother and volunteer in the local schools. She received her B.A. in nursing education from St. Joseph's College, North Windham, Maine in 1986. She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen. Surviving are her husband, Herman J. ""Hank"" Bauer; sons and daughter-in-law, David and Cheryl Bauer, Daniel Bauer; granddaughter, Katie Bauer; sisters, Judy Bruns, Danville, Illinois, Barbara Boncyk, San Diego, Calif.; brother, Louis Boncyk, Lake Charles, La.; eleven nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 6359, Glen Allen, Va. 23858. Funeral mass will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, by the Rev. Gregory Kandt. Interment will follow in St. Andrews Diocesan Cemetery. CONKLIN, Phoebe Hayden Bass, 88, widow of William Alfred Conklin of Rocky Mount, died Saturday, December 24, 1994, at Franklin Health Care Center. Mrs. Conklin was born in Park Ridge, N.J., June 1, 1906, a daughter of the late Willard Daniel Bass and Phoebe Hayden Bass. She was a member of Lake Worth Christian Reform church in Lake Worth, Fla. and was a retired registered nurse. Mrs. Conklin is survived by three daughters, Betty Ann Odell of Boynton Beach, Fla., Wanda Hope Gaillard of Dothan, Ala., Patricia Sue VanDyk of Smith Mountain Lake; four sons, Rex Allen Conklin of Trout Creek, Mt., William Albert Conklin of Lake Worth, Fla., Lee Daniel Conklin of Petaluma, Calif., Bruce Hayden Conklin of Grass Valley, Calif., 22 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, December 29, 1994, at Hales Ford Baptist Church by the Rev. Melvin Harris. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Bible Societ y. CORNETT, James Lenard, 68, of Cinncinnati, Ohio, passed away in Roanoke on Saturday, December 24, 1994, at the home of his daughter. Rev. Andrea Cornett- Scott who is the Pastor of Ebenezer AME Church on Lafayette Blvd. N.W. Mr. Cornett was brought to Roanoke because of illness and was an associate member of the Ebenezer AME Church. He was retired from his occupation in Cinncinnati and was a member of Omega Psi Phi Faternity. Survivors include four daughters, Rev. Andrea Cornett-Scott, Roanoke, Marianne Cornett-White, Karson Cornett and Jennifer Cornett all of Cinncinnati; one son, John Cornett, Auburn, Ala.; son-in-law, Dr. Edward Scott, Roanoke; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters; one brother and other relatives. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 30, 1994, at the Brown Chapel AME Church, Cinncinnati, Ohio with Dr. Edward Scott officiating and burial following. FINLEY, Florence K., 89, of Roanoke, formerly of Whitetop, Va., passed away Monday, December 26, 1994, at the Camelot Nursing Home, Salem, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sheffie B. Finley, and a son, Bradley L. Finley. Surviving are a son, Jack Finley, Roanoke, Va.: a daughter-in-law, Joan Finley, Roanoke; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 29, 1 p.m . in the Helton Valley Baptist Church, Whitetop, Va., with the Rev. Dent Darnell and the Rev. Ricks Hall officiating. FULLER, Kenneth F., ``Doc"", 77, of Marion, died Sunday, December 25, 1994, in Smyth County Community Hospital. Mr. Fuller served in World War II in 82nd Airborne Division in Europe. He retired from Brunswick Corp. after 25, years of service, was a member of the Marion V.F.W. Post #4667 and the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Frances Byers Fuller of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and William L. Taylor of Marion; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth W. ``Butch"" Fuller of Manassas, William T. ``Bill"" Fuller of New Bern, N.C., and Gary D. and Denise Fuller of Marion; three sisters, Mrs. Joe (Elizabeth) Reeves of Galax, Mrs. Reeves (Helen) Tomlinson of Rural Retreat, and Mrs. Dennis (Ramona) Burns of Bristol, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Harold (Grace) Fuller of Mineral; eight grandchildren; two great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews. Born in Giles County on February 24, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Rupert Edward and Armetta Hare Waldron. She is survived by a brother, Dennis Waldron of Rich Creek; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Mason of Narrows, and Mrs. Kathleen Biggs of Rich Creek, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. O'Neill was born, August 9, 1939, in Jackson, Miss., the son of the late Emma Lewis Shepard O'Neill and Leroy William O'Neill Sr. He was preceded in death by a half-brother, Larry O'Neill. SHUTE, Mary Jane, 83, of Roanoke died in a Roanoke Hospital Sunday, December 25, 1994. She was a former employee of Jefferson Hospital and C. H. R. V. Miss Shute was the daughter of George H. and Anne Cheney Shute. She is survived by sister-in-law, Mrs. George E. Shute Sr.; nephew and his wife, George E. STANLEY, Kenneth Luther, 37, of Napa, Calif. formerly of Roanoke, died Thursday, December 22, 1994. He is survived by his father and mother, Jessie L. and Dorothy F. TRINKLE, Bertha B., 82, formerly of Roanoke and Alexandria, died December 24, 1994, in Richmond. The widow of Clarence M. Trinkle Jr., who had just passed away December 16, 1994, is survived by a daughter, Nancy T. O'Shea of Richmond and Fairfax, Va. and a son, Rev. Clarence M. Trinkle, III of Holy Spirit Parish, Annadale, Va. She is also survived by two sisters, Mary E. Webber of Roanoke and Nan B.
