TREE RECYCLING

What can you do with a real Christmas tree when the holidays are over? The National Christmas Tree Association suggests the following post-holiday recycling ideas:

Christmas trees are biodegradable; the branches may be removed and the trunk chopped and used as garden mulch.

Christmas trees make excellent bird feeders. Attract birds with orange slices, suet, and bird seed. They will come for the food and stay for the shelter in the branches.

The needles can be used for aromatic potpourris and sachets.

Woodworking hobbyists can make a multitude of items from the trunk.

Living trees that come with their roots intact can be planted and enjoyed for years.

Christmas trees should never be burned in fireplaces. They can contribute to creosote build up in the chimney.
