Farm assistance

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Montgomery County Farm Service Agency has announced that farmers can apply now for 1995 Agricultural Conservation Program assistance. Farmers can sign up for long-term projects through Friday and for individual projects through September 1995.

Program funds for 1995 will be about half the amount allocated in previous years. Eligible projects include building animal waste storage structures, stream protection, planting trees or improving existing timber stands, and correcting erosion problems.

The agency says conservation plans and systems must be in place and practices implemented by Jan. 1, 1995, for producers to be eligible for 1995 U.S. Department of Agriculture benefits.

For more information, call W. Terry Altizer, acting county executive director, 382-3961.
