First, Mike McElroy hit a follow shot with 23.1 seconds left that gave the Fighting Blues a 60-59 lead over Fieldale-Collinsville in a tournament that features seven schools with larger enrollments than Parry McCluer.
Then, before his shot officially was the game-winner, the 6-foot-5 senior blocked Nat Law's layup attempt just before the final buzzer to secure the victory.
In the other consolation-round game, Group AAA Franklin County breezed past winless Rockbridge County 76-38. That puts the Eagles in a 3:45 p.m. battle today with Parry McCluer in the fifth-place game. The Wildcats meet Fieldale-Collinsville at 2 p.m. for seventh place.
McElroy was Parry McCluer's leading scorer, with 23 points, which included a nice inside-outside mix. He also hit a pair of 3-point field goals.
Law led Fieldale-Collinsville with 19 points, including five 3-pointers.
Carlos Holland sparked Franklin County's victory with 16 points. Chad Foutz added 13 as the Eagles broke on top early and pulled away from the Wildcats. Jaymie Terrell, a sophomore, led Rockbridge County with 11.
