HARMAN LEADS FLOYD PAST CELTICS 80-73

Brian Harman scored a team-high 18 points to help Floyd County advance to the championship game of the Floyd Xpress Invitational with an 80-73 victory over Roanoke Catholic Tuesday in boys' basketball.

The Buffaloes will take on Auburn, 84-58 winners over Covington, tonight at 7:30 for the title. The Cougars face the Celtics in the consolation game at 6 p.m.

Harman scored nine in the first quarter as the Buffaloes took an eight-point lead and held on for the win. Harman also had six rebounds and four assists.

Floyd County got 10 points each from Peter Bucklin, Derrick Saunders and Jesse Slusher, who also had eight rebounds.

Tony Joyce scored a game-high 25 points - including 17 in the second half -

The JV championship pits Auburn against Floyd County.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Aimee Beightol just missed a triple-double, scoring 15 points to go along with 10 assists and nine steals as the Knights cruised to a victory over Cummings, N.C., in the first round of the Northwest Guilford Christmas Tournament.

Beightol scored nine of her points in the second quarter as Cave Spring overcame a slow first quarter in which they shot 17 percent from the field.

Cave Spring (4-2) also got 12 points from Cheryl Rhodes and 10 from Emily Rappold. Jackie Banks added 10 rebounds for the Knights, who will meet East Guilford tonight in a second -round game.
